Taking a roundabout route home from Si Satchanalai & a failed attempt to find an old ancient gate from Lampang to Sukhothai province, I "stumbled" across this amazing monster of a wat.

Wat Phiphat Mongkhon

It has been a work in progress for 26 years over an area of 119 rai.

Originally, this temple was an abandoned temple in the middle of a rice field. It is thought it was a temple before about 700 years, no historical evidence. But found only the foundation of the chapel, an ancient chedi, which sank 1.50 meters below the ground at the center of the present temple.

It is considered one of the most famous Dharma places in Thailand, as a place to study Buddhism. under Luang Por Worakhun Prayut Phra Ajarn Pipatmongkol.

The main Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Sukho Phothong, is a sacred Buddha image cast with 9 kilograms of gold; somwhere but I failed to find it, there are so many chapels.

You can spend a couple of hours in here taking photos, but it is a huge concrete pad with no trees & gets incredibly hot.
I was knackered and dehydrated by the time i'd finished walking around, & I never went inside any of the viharns, because I was too hot & tired to take off my boots every time.

If you've been to Wat Ban Den in Mae Taeng
& been impressed, this one is much bigger IMHO.

Check it out sometime
