Thailand Hmong New Year 2024

Some info received suggests Hmong New Year will be 27-31 December.
For Christian Hmong villages it may start from 25th December until 31st December.

Chanat Piya UI School

Friday 12th January 20234.
With a bit of time to spare in the arvo I set off from Chiang Khong & road along R1155.
As is my usual it was a late departure, but I was in no rush & knew that eventually I would luck out in one of the Hmong villages dotted along the way on R1155.
There were lots of Hmong riding around fully dressed or in loaded pick ups.
I checked the village school playground of Ban Thai Samakkhi, but there was ot a great deal happening, being so early in the New Year.
Eventually the Singapore road turn off came & I recalled there was a largish Hmong village right there when you turn off.
There was a cool little party going at the school, with games for the adults & kids; but no courting ball game (yet).
A few pics then.

An interesting game for the kids from 2 days ago.

And a game for the men, all good simple fun.

Unfortunately I picked up a virulent bug (sore throat & head cold) later that day coming home, & have been out of action for 2 days now, so no more Hmong New Year posts, for the time being from me.

With health improvement in the afternoon, I thought I'd better make an effort to see a bit more of Hmong new Year whilst the opportunity was there. Thung Na Noi was it again, being only 8 kms from home.

Today was to be the main day at TNN, but in the morning, so I missed out there.

However, there were some interesting activities going in the afternoon, that I found amusing, as did the crowd.

1. The ladies had to run with an empty bamboo water container down to the village stream, fill it up & run back up to the start / finish line.

Then there was a tug of war for the ladies.

A young Hmong gal got on stage for a few numbers to sing.

The star of the show was another popular Hmong singer who pulled all the gals in swooning.

Photo of the day goes to my Belgian buddy Michel from Chiang Khong.

I'd asked if I could take her photo & the reply was yes, but only if it was with MIchel.
She must have had her eye on him for a while, because she also insisted he put his arm around her!
What a winner we both thought.
