Crossing Into Thailand From Cambodia

Does anyone have updates about crossing Koh Kong into Thailand with Cambodian registered big bike? Would like to take my bike in this coming January. And if it's possible, how long can I stay in Thailand with my bike? Everything has changed too many times since I last crossed the boarder 3 years ago. It used to be easy because me and the bike were in the computer system. BTW, I do have Cambodia registration card for my bike and Cambodia driver license for big bike and also a 6 month Thai visa. And will I be able to extend my Temporary Import/Export papers for an extra 30 days at the Customs House in Chiang Mai like before?

My understanding is that as far as Cambodian vehicles crossing into Thailand is concerned (doesn't matter if it's a car or motorcycle) it's business as usual. You will probably be given a 30 day entry permit for your bike. You may be told not to ride outside of Trat but in practice, there is nothing stopping you. You are supposed to leave Thailand the same way you came (no big deal if you ask me) though I'm not sure if they hold your registration like the Koh Kong side does for Thai and Malaysian registrations crossing there. I would find it odd if they didn't reciprocate but I don't know. You will find out once you get there. I know that Thai customs strictly reciprocates what Myanmar customs does at their common border, but the Thai/Cambodian border seems a bit more lax.

I don't know about extending your temporary import papers; last I heard they largely stopped that BUT you may still get lucky. Give it a try and report back here.

Thanks for the reply. Good info but the extension is my main concern. Guess I will just have to try when I'm there. Was hoping I wouldn't have to take bike out and back in to Thailand just to get an extra 30 day TIP. Thanks again ,maybe someone will read this forum and have info or experience with extension.
