Dates: 08 July 2017 – 09 July 2017
Location: Thung Si Mueang Park, Ubon Ratchathan

This year, the much-anticipated International Wax Candle Festival and Wax Candle Procession in Ubon Ratchathani takes place from 5-10 July 2017 with Thung Si Mueang Park once again being the venue.

This is one of the biggest Khao Phansa events taking place in Thailand’s Northeast and offers a great opportunity to explore the region’s unique local culture. Locals use the festival to put on their traditional dress and show off their local folk dances. There are also a huge range of other activities that visitors to the event can enjoy, all of which give a glimpse into local Thai life.

Of course, the highlight of the event is the display of elaborated wax candles which will be held on 8 and 9 July. These appear in a procession accompanied by spectacular folk dances and performances from all the local communities within the province of Ubon Ratchathani. There will also be a light and sound presentation taking place on procession days which happens in front of the City Hall and Wat Sri Ubon Rattanaram.

Other interesting activities taking place at the International Wax festival include a showcase of life-sized wax artworks at the ‘Miracle of Candle’ event. These are on show from 5-10 July at Central Plaza Ubon Ratchathani along with demonstrations of candle making, gong making, pottery making on the Candle Road and an exhibition that looks at the life of Lord Buddha at Tung Sri Mueang on the Dharma Road which will be held from 4-9 July.
