30 days in Laos

Expanding a bit on another thread in the New users section;

I live in Thailand but need a new visa stamp so will head back to Laos; I was there a year ago and loved it.

30 days should do me nicely, and I will rent a bike in Vientiane and head north from there.

Vang Viang area for 4 or 5 days, same in Luang Prabang.

Which basically leaves me with 20 days or so to do a big loop back to Vientiane. My plan is very flexible but looks something like; base myself in the Louang Namtha region for a few days, then further north to Phongsali and that area, maybe a week all told.

Then back south, towards Xam Noua, back towards Phonsovan, further south towards Pakxan and then follow the Mekong back to the capital, 2 more weeks for that.

I don't want to rush myself so I won't try to go as far south as the 4000 islands and Pakxe, just points north, west and east.

Experienced rider, been on bikes for 30 years since I was a 16-year old trouble-maker, love riding 'cycles in Asia.

Any comments, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
