Bad luck Ian, hope you get your money back!

From what I can investigate this is a homemade website with only a gmail contact.....looks dodgy. I wouldn't have gone near this site with my money unless someone had recommended it to me. Your friend owes you more than a beer for this recommendation. :-(

You should be able to get your money back from the CC company?! Maybe not if it's already been months...

I met a guy on the plane once, a rather dodgy young Austrian guy living in Thailand off of a government pension. Not sure how he got the pension in the first place he was well under 30 years old and seemed just fine but he had somehow scammed his way into a disability pension. Anyway he told me of a guy who lives in Ko Samui and runs websites that sell Viagra and other such things. He doesn't keep stock. Or send any products. All he has is the websites, and he'll take your money via Western Union and you'll never hear from him again. That's all he does! Beware of the internets... and never pay with Western Union (they pay out cash instantly and your money is gone, no refunds etc).

Does this guy accept western union as payment? if so send him a fake msc number or whatever, he'll go in to try and collect it. then apologize that you made a mistake with one of the digits and he'll have to go in there again. keep on doing it until he gives up.

Putting the above address into Google Maps (street view) shows his house which looks like he is just finishing. Probably with some of Ian's money. Be interesting to see if this telephone number works.

Edit: Update- this is a mobile phone number registered in Phoenix Arizona.

Well surprisingly I just got a Email from this Guy! Seems someone sent Him a link to this thread, wonder Who? Anyway I checked with My Bank this morning and they have nothing Yet so His Reply is a little bit confusing to Me but at least it seems He is willing to Refund the Money if I understand it correctly? The Reply:

Well I'll get it for you. I'm on the road for 7 more days but when I get back I'll forward you what I have. I sent all that stuff back more than a month ago I think. Now look, I get your frustration. I really do. But I have a 200 to one ratio of happy customers to you telling people your sending the internaional police over to my house on your forum posts, which is kind of funny because we all know that's never gonna happen, but. in my defense, it seems that some of your emails have gone to spam and after the money went back to you, I really thought it was an instant deal. So imagine my suprise when some guy I don't know tells me I'm gonna get what's coming to me after reading your blog post. Which he forwarded to me this morning. I'll prove the money was taken from my account and given to you, but you need to patch up that damage a little. And I'm sorry it worked out this way.

Very confusing reply to say the least...

I have an old school mate living just outside of Phoenix. IF needed he could report to the Phoenix police... let me know.

But let's hope everything is going to work out well.

After reading this lame excuse I believe this guy is a crook! One statement contradicts the next.

Sounds like you're going to get "the stuff" and your money back....

Well there has been some Exchange of Emails and He has agreed to Payback the Money. In Fact He claims He already has but not according to My Bank and I definitely do not have it in My account? Anyway supposedly it will be sorted next week!
Seems Some of the Guys on this Thread must have sent some Emails and contacted in other ways so Thanks for the Support and Help Guys. Here is His Last Email:

"And let you're crazy friends know on your chat site so they don't attack a house they are watching that isn't even mine, They are nuts. But loyal to you so good for that. I'll get you the rest of the real confirming info next week when I'm back. Monday is a holiday here so Tuesday I'll cal ok".

So for everyone from the GT-Rider Community I think You should all be Pleased to know that there are others there to Support and Help You when needed and You may not even have to Ask! Actually It's there for all Riders, GT-Riders or not as was Shown last week when David and other Locals assisted Kai with the arrangements for the Ceremony and Repatriation of Our Friend John Olsen Who Tragically passed away. He wasn't a GT Member but He was a Rider and a Good Friend.
So Well done Guys and Keep up Your Support.

MY deal isn't over but it is definitely moving in the Right direction and I will let you know once it is finished.

That really is positive news.

Looks like the biking community in Northern Thailand is more powerful and can give as well as receive cyber harassment ;-)

Good luck with it mate.

Cheers

I hope things will work out - if you paid in December 2012 it's about time something happened!

But maybe the guy is playing for time.

I had something similar happen to me a few years ago worth about $1200, not with bike parts but with some home theater furniture. I finally contacted my VISA fraud reporting and they started an investigation. Took several weeks but they reversed all charges and accrued interest, no problem. I think all VISA, Mastercard, and AMEX issuers have a $50 max liability for fraud or theft. So even if he disappeared without a trace, you most likely would have received a full refund from the bank anyway. Just takes a little time for them to verify your claim and that YOU are not the scammer scamming them!

The US has quite decent consumer protection laws that limit your liability in the event of fraud.

In contrast, when you use a credit card issued by a Thai bank you have virtually no protection whatsoever from fraud, so beware of using a Thai credit card for large purchases.
