Carnet accepted into Laos

Had a pleasant surprise today crossing from Nonk Khai into Laos. The Laos Customs Officer noticed that i had a Carnet de Passage amongst my papers and volunteered to accept it. His boss signed off on it and away into Loas i went. Must be a current change as my entry from Houie Xai in December was not interested. Now if only Thailand would do the same and do away with the Temporary Import reporting.

But what would be the advantage ??

Surely all its doing is risking your carnet bond.. Versus 'not risking your carnet bond' ??

I had one confused Laotian border guard think that where I was pointing to my name in the green book was like a carnet book and had to actually grab his hand to stop him rubber stamping the Thai green book page..
