Chiang Dao to the entrance of the Huai Nam Dang NP on HWY 1095 via Muang Khong.
I stayed a night at Chiang Dao huts after riding up from Chiang Mai.
The road to Chiang Dao WS after you turn off the HWY 107.
There’s plenty of places to stay in this area. I personally like Chiang Dao hut.
They have bungalows from 400 to 1200 baht. I think this was 800.
A word of warning. The mountain water is very cold, and hose pressure at Chiang Dao Hut is only matched by Chiang Mai fire department. Trust me, this innocent looking “Bun Gun” in nothing short of a lethal weapon.
Beautiful surroundings, my hut is in there somewhere.
Owned and run by a lovely Thai family, the Bulldog steak house is directly opposite Chiang Dao Huts. The food in this place is amazing. Thai and western.
I know the local riders in the north are well aware of the road from Chiang Dao to Muang Khong, but anyone planning a trip, or is new to the area, should consider checking it out. Its concrete and tar all the way, with some stunning mountain views.
Its a little chopped up here and there, but otherwise ok.
There is a 230 baht entrance fee just out of Chiang Dao.
The lovely little town of Muang Khong is where the dirt starts. But if you’re on a road bike it would be a great ride up and down the mountain from Chiang Dao.
There’s a few coffee shops up there.
All the roads and tracks for this ride are on the GT-Rider Mae Hong Son Loop map.
So much great riding up here, and todays short ride is only a tiny bit of it.
Just brilliant through here.
Farm land with Chiang Dao in the back ground.
The dirt turned to concrete as I approached the National Park headquarters..
Once I hit HWY 1095 I rode on to Mae Hong Son for the night.
