Chiang Mai Accommodation

admin wrote: Chiang Mai: Siri Ghouse. In Chiang Mai I really have to recommend Siri Guesthouse on Moon Muang Soi 5. An alley down from the traffic, totally new and clean, (to me it was a hotel-room), 200 B. Very quiet!
We stayed there recently and found the place as described. Price is now 250B and they don't take bookings.

However, it's rainy season and our gear was wet, so hung it over the railing to dry. After a day I was asked to remove my remaining pants, now luckily dry. When I asked the owner where I could hang up my rain jacket, etc. he said "Sorry, we don't have facilities for drying." and suggested I take it to a laundry!

The gate is padlocked 19h-7h. (You can only get small bikes in or out during that time.)

I'll be staying elsewhere next time.

I am going to try Ben GH and a new one Baan Klang Vieng Hostel. Anyone have experience with these?

Also, I took a loot at Ban Wiang "We Treat You Like Our Member" :lol-sign: Gotta love those slogans!

Perfect for when your AT breaks down with electrical trouble on the way home.

No need to mess around in the dark, get yourself a lovely quiet room for 480 baht, pop into Tops Supermarket in the drive way to pick up any needed toiletries or supplies.

Then hit the town in town Kuang Sing.....for a meal The Pizza Company is 80 meters away to the North.....Another 40 metres away north is the Sai Mao Karaoke Restaurant....Next door again 10 metres away is the Pra Jan Pub & Restaurant with live music, good & attentive attractive waitresses.

All recommended from experience. But it's best if your bike does not have an electrical failure at the start of the night.

Lux Hotel.

Photos & card coming after my next late night time excursion.

I stayed at the Lux for a month both in 2010 and 2011 winters. Rate was B 13,000/month.

Hotel was first opened in late 2009 and is very well maintained. Rooms are good size and attractively furnished, a/c, large flat.screen TV, etc.

Nice clean dry parking under hotel. I am back in CM 16 August and look forward to staying there again. (Would welcome an opportunity to have a beer with one of you expat riders while I'm there.)

I do not have any pics to share but those on the Lux's web site accurately represent the place.

I go up to Chiang Mai every 4 to 6 weeks and always stay at the Lux Hotel. I'll be up there again this week to pick up my new kwaka vulcan custom and will be staying at the Lux. Going rate at the moment is 700 baht a night. And just a short walk around the corner is the Euro Diner which always has a great breakfast.

I do not share the positive recommendation, at a price of 790 baht per night the service is mediocre at best.

At check in you get handed a set of towels, 1 rol of toilet paper and two bottles of water (I was with my wife).
If you need new towels or toilet paper, get them at reception, fresh water you need to get from a water cooler.
We stayed for 3 nights and no room cleaning or any other form of house keeping during our stay......

Rooms are run down and noisy but no street noise which is good.

Maybe good enough for backpackers at 400-500 baht per night but i.m.o. not worth the 790 baht.

Location is good, swimming pool looked OK, breakfast mediocre, parking (pickup truck) was promised but in reality hardly available.
Thanks for the feed back Marcel, my strong recommendation is for the Lux Hotel.
