Chiang Mai to Fang.

The way; Hwy 1001 to Phrao, then the 1346 to the 107, and north onto Fang.

First stop was a quick look at the Bua Tong water fall.

Hwy 1348, always a nice ride, and in the wet season when its lush and green its even better.
CMFang2.jpg

Steep and twisty. I better take care.
CMFang4.jpg

A little further on the Thai witches hats were out.
CMFang5.jpg

And here is the reason.
CMFang6.jpg

Maybe he didn’t see the signs.
CMFang7.jpg

Now this is a big tree. Sign translates to “this is a big tree.”
CMFang8.jpg

Couple of locals going about there business.
CMFang9.jpg

Its onion picking season, so everyone was out doing there bit.
CMFang10.jpg

CMFang11.jpg

Two happy onion pickers hard at work.
CMFang12.jpg

The happy two have a lot of work in front of them.
CMFang13.jpg

After picking its on to the pick up. The smell was beautiful.
CMFang14.jpg

Just some of the pick ups waiting there turn to be loaded up.
CMFang15.jpg

Wat Pra That Doi Wiang Chai Mongkol. This is an impressive Wat complex near Long Kord, and even if your not into temples, this is one you gotta have a look at.
Its built on mountain ridge and has some good views of the surrounding area.

I was here at the start on the year with Sylvie, and you can see her report here.

Thanks for the contribution, especially the waterfall photo - that's one less hike for me. Did you hike all the way to the bottom - it's a long way back up isn't it?

I love the "Witches Hats" on the road too. I bet that pick-up driver needed a change of underwear after he rolled it going down the hill.

Thanks for the tip off re the temple at Long Kord, Wat Pra That Doi Wiang Chai Mongkol. It will have to go on my list of new places to check out.

I hope all is week in Oz & you're not fretting over your lonely KLX250.

Great photos and even more food for thought for my trip in November. I was in Tuscany last year some fantastic roads and scenery.

Thanks

Safe riding

Finding the Wat can be a little difficult, so here’s the GPS directions.
GPS for Wat Pra That Doi Wiang Chai Mongkol.
N 19degrees 04.324 E 099degrees 10.557

About half way down, the stairs to the bottom of the water fall have collapsed, but you can still get down to the bottom without to much problem.

Theres food and drinks available there too. Very nice spot.
