Thanks again for organizing the Toy Ride. It was great. I'd also like to give a big Thank You to the local Police, who did an awesome job, blocking the roads for us.

I think that fun was had by all and can see 10 times as many people coming next year. :D

Yes, I think that posting the accounting is a great idea also. People will love to see the transparency of it all.

The best thing was seeing the smile on the children's faces

Cheers

Mon and Kurt

Hi guys,

Just had two people from a local place drop in to eat. They run a home for Orphans and poor children up here right near Chiang Dao. 40 kids. Four of them already in highschool. All together 10 of them who are 15 -18 years old, the other 30 are between 7-14 years old.
He will bring me some details of the place in the next few days. Thought it might be a good place to distribute some toys, too.

Just went back on the Toy Ride website and noticed that there are no pictures up yet and no mention that the Toyride is finished. Might be a good idea to stay on top of that, because I am sure that more people besides myself are looking for the pics of the event.

If anyone has pictures of the toyride, please send them to me. I would like to put a few up on our club website, too.

Just send to ][email protected]

Thanks guys.

I had a great time and look forward to next year

There's aToy Ride Report in PDF format up at
https://www.gt-rider.com/ToyRide08article.pdf
if you want to take a look.

This same report will probably go up on the Toy Ride website, with some more prodding.

The police escort was very pleasant. They should keep their old nicely fitted uniforms. The new ample ones would be a waste

Thanks to all of you who participated in the organization. It was a nice day. See you next year.

We had a pickup load of toys left over from the ride, and distributed them at Viengping orphanage in Mae Rim yesterday for Childrens Day. A great time was had by all. and the look on the kids faces made it all worthwhile.

I am getting ready to post our accounts for all to see, but it looks like we raised about 150,000 B after expenses. Not bad for the first year, and no doubt it will be a bigger and better event next year.

Thanks to all who helped give the kids a helping hand.

David, I am so pleased the small boy seen in the pic wearing a blue T shirt, grasping a frog and a plastic yellow shovel, was able to get some toys. He is a gorgeous boy, winning the battle with only stumps for legs and just one arm.

I volunteered at that orphanage 18 months ago for a month ( thats all they allow you to stay for ) and I carried him back to the main area from group afternoon walks around the school grounds on more than one occasion.

Some of the children there manage to find homes through adoption but many sadly stay until their teens.

Glad you were able to brighten their lives a little.

There are two more mini Toy Ride donation events being planned.
The first is Samoeng, Sunday 27th April 2008.
The 2nd is Chiang Dao, Sunday 25th May 2008.
These are the last Sundays in the month.

The Samoeng event is confirmed, whilst arrangements are being made to set up the Chiang Dao event.

SAMOENG
Sunday 27th April 2008.
For the Samoeng event a donation of clothes / toys / school supplies will be made in downtown Samoeng, to the Karen people from Ban Mai Lan Kham. This village is one of, if not the poorest, in the Samoeng area. Mai Lan Kham is about 20 kms south of Samoeng & is only accessible by 4WD / off-road motorcycle.
All bikers are welcome to join in & witness the event. If you want to bring another toy on the day you are welcome to do so, but it is not a requirement.
Note that the donation will take place in Samoeng, you dont have to go out to the village.
Full details of the event will be finalized in the next couple of weeks (after Songkran.)

CHIANG DAO
Sunday 25th May 2008.
The Chiang Dao event is in the early planning stage, but it will happen & details will be confirmed early next month - May.

TOY RIDE WEBSITE
The Toy Ride website is being redesigned & should be fully operational next week.
The new website will include photo galleries, plus full financial statements to satisfy any doubting Thomases.

TOY RIDE 2009
Planning is already in the works & info will appear both here & on the new toy ride website.
The event is scheduled for Sunday 4th January 2009.
Many more people / companies / organizations have expressed interest in supporting the 2009 event, & indeed future toy rides. So it seems as if the 2008 Toy Ride was a real success, especially with proper accounting transparency (due to be published on the new website.)
Thank you to all those who rode on, worked on or donated to the 2008 event.

The Samoeng mini Toy Ride scheduled for Sunday 27th April is now moved to Sunday 4th May 2008.
Reason: the election in Samoeng originally scheduled for 20th April is now on 27th April, & we can't be seen giving out goodies on an election day.

Ho. Ho. Ho.
The local election in Samoeng has again been delayed another week to Sunday 4th May, so the Samoeng mini Toy Ride now drops back yet another week to Sunday 11th May 2008.

He's back again, yet another delay. The 11th May is now school enrollment day, & they want to drop it back yet another week to Sunday May 18th. Unbelievable, but all of this is for real! So the Samoeng Mini Toy Ride is now scheduled for Sunday 18th May 2008. Blame the Samoeng govt officials not us!
