AAAGhhhh...... Been in a fight mate..?
The Bee won this one..... Need a disguise.............
Better..
Heading west out of Ngao, the plan was to ride the long dirt road across to Chaehom, about 50 klms.
But first, can't miss an opportunity to visit Lomphukeow. They are putting a new road in to The Blue Lagoon and no doubt it will become a huge tourist draw. There is a large new National park Office and camp site etc being put up.
....there used to be a couple of river crossings on the old dirt road to get there....
Not the best time of year to see the magical lake, due to leaf litter on the surface. After the rains come, it should regain it's turquoise beauty.
Then I got onto the trail to Chaehom.
On the way, you pass two lovely waterfalls
Mae Gae waterfall
here is Mae Gae in rainy season...
Very close by is Gaow Fu waterfall, now Mae Gae 2 waterfall
Gaow Fu in rainy season. One of the loveliest falls around. Few people get there as it's a dirt road... for now...
It flows down the mountainside, coming out of the jungle. No tourist shops for now, so it's still very natural.
Continue on heading roughly west.
This lady wanted to ride pillion across to Chaehom. Ermmm.... not sure that is a good idea, madam.....
Wow...... Mud....... first I've seen....... it looks nice.....!
About here is a main junction. Continue west on the dirt road, another 25klms or so, to Chaehom.
Or turn north on a smaller trail. It was still early so I chose the latter.
Akha villages here.
Now, this is getting nice...
I'm on the Ngao / Chaehom district border ridge.
Natural cannonball..... an old fig. Must have weighed nearly a kilo.
This is brilliant, National Park greenery.
down into a village at the north end of this trail. Not many people around, except a few elderly ladies doing embroidery.
The last part of the ride took me down off the ridge and into the river valley.
Through the village of Mae Ngao Dai (odd that it should be named that, when it is north of the doi)
This where the road pops out on to 120, at the Phayao - Lampang border police box.
Doi Mae Ngao.
This is the complete 76klm ride. nearly all dirt except the last 5klms or so at the north end.
The central ridgeline section of this ride was just wonderful. Away from the browns and Into the greenery
Here is the GPX file
Track_Ngao to 105 dirt.gpx
A lot of things to see west of Ngao; Lomphukeaow, 2 waterfalls, a Buddha cave and some prehististoric rock art.
Plus the trail over Doi Mae Ngao was superb.
