I am going to try and get the 310 and hard mount the bracket next to the ignition of th ER6-N that I will get tommorrow (for dry days). I will then see if I can mount the unit in a piece of foam (with the ariel up) that will fit inside the map section of the tank bag (for wet/very dusty days). - i will let you know how it works as soon as i get the unit

Also how easy is it to see the 60csx when riding?
I am new to GPS's, but after checking prices here in Thailand, I found a Nuvi 310 in Bangkok for 12,900 baht. Everyone else wanted 22,900. At the time, the exchange rate for the U.S.D. was about 33.5. so the price was about $379.00. It comes with a "stick-on" round metal disk, so I mounted it to the left resevoir on my bike, then used the suction cup, and it hold very well and is easy to see with its 4" screen. It came loaded with the ESRI map of Thailand at no additional cost. Its not water p[roof like the 60 model, but you can take it off its mount with one hand while riding, put it in your pocket, and it still works, so I would assume it would work in a tank bag as long as the antenna is up. It is designed as a portable hand held unit.
It's bluetooth, but I have not found a headset that is compatable with it, so I just hard wire it using a standard earbud headset. Also, it has an SD card slot which you can load with maps or music/pics/etc. So, other than not being able to find a bluetooth headset that works with it, I'm satisfied. And, it is fairly easy to use.

and the Garmin software & Thai map (for my phone) for about 5000B.

It's not a very elegant solution but I find it pretty good. I still have to fix the phone to the bike (it goes in the tankbag map pocket at the moment) and wire in a charger and I'll get a bluetooth headset for my helmet if I can find one.
Sorry but I'm starting from scratch with GPS, tho' I'm OK with the laptop.
Re above, do you mean a smart phone without GPS ?
I've just bought a Nokia N96 with SD slot and GPS but I don't get it in my hands for another month yet, when I visit UK.
If I can work out how to get the mapping into it, then am I already where you are with this setup?
I've been seriously looking at a Zumo 550 (also from UK cos they're cheaper) mainly for car but with the option of some bike use.
I know there's no real comparison, but I'm wondering if I'm duplicating things now that I've bought the N96.
Any comments appreciated.

I recently added the310 to my ER6-N and it is brilliant- I have used it to navigate round small roads and have found it very easy to use – so far no problems with the dust.
easy to sue only only cost 10K - clips on and off easily - I have pictures of it but am not sure how to load then up on the site.

Also bought a clear bag that goes over it in the rain - so far I have not had to use it

I load up some mp3 and bluetooth the unit to my phone which I carry in my jacket. i have Sony noise canceling headphones that block most of the wind noise and allows me to hear the music and directions easily - just did around 1,600km with the unit - first time i have use a GPS and found it really great - easy for fuel lodging and ATM stops, as they are all pre loaded in
