On the third day, we first visited Wat Su Tong Pae and its famous bamboo bridge, located about 8 km from MHS, on the road to the Chinese village of Rak Thai. Born from the will of the local community, the bridge is 500 meters long and stretches over rice paddies and the Mae Sa Nga River. It connects the village of Kung Mai Sak to the temple perched on a small hill. The temple is currently partly under construction but is nevertheless worth a visit because the bamboo bridge that leads to it and the view it offers from its promontoir are really superb.
We then followed the road to Rak Thai and after a break at the Pha Sua waterfall, we had the pleasure of watching farmers who were harvesting rice in the traditional way, without mechanical assistance. It was a real pleasure to observe with what courage these peasants work so hard, as a team where everyone has a specific role.
The winding road rises quickly and offers us views and country scenes of great beauty. The Suzuki V-Strom is a very pleasant mount to drive for this kind of course, both for its power, its always available torque, its autonomy as for comfort in duo.
We finally reached the tourist village of Rak Thai, close to the border with Myanmar. The village is located on a small, picturesque lake, with multiple tea fields, and the sight is simply delightful. The place has many tea shops, especially for U-Long tea which is highly popular in the area. There are several restaurants on the lake, which serve the best cuisines of Yunnan province along with lovely, unique resorts.
Then we continued our ascent to Pang Ung and its beautiful lake that I personally preferred to Rak Thai because the natural beauty of the site is better preserved. The place is as splendid as it is calm and it is a site of choice for the adepts of the camp-site. Pang Ung Lake is located 44km from Mae Hong Son. It is a place for people who love to touch fresh cold air and beautiful mountains with the lake view. It is one of the Queen Sirikit Royal Initiative Projects for highland development. A big favorite for this beautiful place.
It's possible to rent a bungalow, a bamboo boat and to camping in this beautiful place.
The return to Mae Hong Son was also very enjoyable, as was the evening at the night market, around the lake with a delicious dinner at the Salween restaurant (Burmese and Thai cuisine).
We spent the two nights at MHS at the Golden Pai Suite and Spring, located about 7km from the city center. A very nice hotel, with a beautiful garden and two swimming pools. Price from 800 baht for a standard bungalow.
