UPGRADE FOR LINK ROAD TO LAOS
(27-03-2009)
HA NOI — Construction to upgrade 68km of National Highway 2E kicked off yesterday at the international border gate in PangHok, Laos.
It is a strategic road linking Viet Nam’s northwest provinces with the northern provinces of Laos, as well as an important trans-Asia link for the development of both countries.
The ceremony to start the work was attended by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, chairman of the Viet Nam - Laos co-operation subcommittee, and Laos’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavath, chairman of the Laos - Viet Nam co-operation subcommittee.
The 68-km road, to be completed in four years, will create favourable conditions for the development of transport, tourism and direct investment between Laos’s Phongsaly Province and Viet Nam’s northern mountainous province of Dien Bien, as well as the northern region of Thailand and the northern area of Viet Nam.
Minister of Transport Ho Nghia Dung urged workers of the two countries to join hands to ensure quality and progress of the project.
The construction would be a new symbol for Viet Nam - Laos friendship, Dung stressed.
Laos’s Minister Communications, Transport, Post and Construction Sommad Pholsena spoke highly of the importance of the project and affirmed that his ministry and leaders of Phongsaly Province would create favourable conditions for the completion of the work.
