A new road linking Nan district to Kasy district over a 68-km stretch is expected to be opened for public use by 2007.
This will be the second road connecting between Luang Prabang and Vientiane provinces, the first connecting Kasy to Nguen districts of Luang Prabang province.
Construction has begun to form a shortcut road, in accordance with development directives of the Lao Government.
Recently, Nan district authorities and technical staff concerned went to the construction area to inspect the progress of the road construction, led by Deputy Chief of the district Khamphouay Bounsana.
Road clearance work commenced in February this year, and until now has been cleared along 45 km with a five metre width, and the finished road will be 68 km long in total. The construction will be completed by December this year.
The road clearance process has been financed by the Ministry of National Defence, at a cost of US$34,000. After succeeding road clearance, the road surface and asphalt pavement works will be carried out.

If this road turns out to be well made it will hopefully take all the logging and bus traffic and leave the good Kasi - LPG road to us.
