Abduction of Luang Namtha Businessman

Sompawn Khantisouk, age, 32, owner of the The Boat Landing Guest House and
Branch Director of Green Discovery Luang Namtha was abducted by 4 unknown
men in Luang Namtha on 23 Jan.
Early in the morning of 22 Jan, the watchmen of the Boat Landing Guest House
alerted Mr. Sompawn and his family of an attempt to set his house on fire.
Someone has poured gasoline on the ground under his house but failed to
ignite the house. The police were duly informed. However, no one can
understand what the motive for such an attempt nor who would do it.
Just before 10 AM on 23 Jan, Mr. Sompawn, received a phone call from the
Luang Namtha District Police asking him to come to their offices to discuss
the incident. Sompawn left the Branch Office of Green Discovery on his
motorcycle and was riding to the district police station which is located in
Ban Luang near the Luang Namtha Airport. He never arrived at the police
station. Around 11:30 the police went to the Boat Landing Guest House to see
if Sompawn was their as they could no longer contact him on his mobile
phone. The guest house staff said that he wasn’t there and called the Green
Discovery office where they were told that he was not there.
Sompawn’s motorcycle was found abandoned on the side of the main road from
the provincial town to the district town soon thereafter. After questioning
many household in the vicinity of where the motorcycle was found, one 14
year old boy said that he saw a maroon colored Toyota Surf pass and then cut
off Sompawn forcing him to the side of the road and to stop his motorcycle.
As he was getting of the motorcycle and removing his helmet four men jumped
out the vehicle simultaneously and pulled him in the vehicle and drove off.
