Sad news in, Khun Jib from the Bamboo Mexican has finally lost his battle with the Big C & passed away late yesterday.

Jib was a fablous guy & always fun to be around at the Bamboo Mexican in Chiang Khong.
He was a character and an infectious personality with his humour and love of the blues music.
Jib seriously enjoyed being the host at the Bamboo Mexican & loved entertaining his customers.
He was a true gem.

I will miss him.

RIP Jib, you were a great host, always ready to hum a tune and reminding me of Carabao. As one of Chiangkong's characters your lively presence will be missed, never forgotten and irreplaceable.

With Tuk Brasserie, who came up from Chiang Mai, arriving at 8.30PM. A great effort.

A group of musicians came from Chiang Rai to play a few tunes for Jib, while his guitar & hat was placed with the group so he could join in.

Tuk played a couple of excellent moving songs. Knocking on Heavens Door. Father And Son. On The Road Again. Plus a John Lee Hooker medley. Jib would have enjoyed playing all those songs & I shed a few tears thinking of Jib listening to those tunes.

The group of musicians played fine sentimental tunes as the coffin entered the grounds - an excellent touching idea.

A sad event, but a totally wonderful send off for Jib.
Only 2 nights at the Wat, plus some wonderful musicians playing some good music such that it wasn't a sad depressing event, but nicely mellow. Very well thought out & organized. Respect to Mim & Taew for the organization & format. Condolences on your loss.

R I P Jib, the Bamboo Mexican won't be the same without you, once it re-opens.

I thought the cremation day was a very nice send-off. Respectful and calm. The procession from the temple to the crematorium was just right. The gurney being pulled by about 40 people on two ropes, with some of us at the back to help push along. When my time comes, I would be happy to go like that.

He had his six old guitars arranged around the coffin.

The last goodbye
20210115_125732.jpg

Bamboo was always my first choice coffee or food stop in C Khong. Been there so many times, riding solo or with groups. K Gib was a real character and very much his own man. I recall being told firmly to wait, because Mexicam takes a while to prepare. He would also sometimes just close the Bamboo when he'd had enough.
We will miss him.
