I have exhausted everything I that I can think of in a search the only one according Gadget Trends that will work is water proof and tough enough to work on a bike is the Zuma 550.

With the maps we are talking 41K baht, way out of my ballpark.

The idea is to get voice direction into the helmet and have rider to passenger communication

Anyone got any ideas?

Ray, I wholeheartedly recommend you to select the LHN for this purpose. LHN? Long Hair Navigator!! :D Perhaps not quite as sophisticated as the Zuma, but SOOO much more fun when you get lost and run out of gas in pouring rain in the middle of nowhere ...

Got an LHN gets lost three blocks from the house and definetly more expensive then a Zuma. But when you add in the cuddle factor I will keep the LHN

The Zumo will do what you want,as you say. The Zumo 450 is available in the U.S. now for about 500USD and the Thai map from Garmin is just over 100USD. Still not cheap but if you do the math it is about half of what you quoted, if you can find someone to send/bring one to you.

The 450 is basically the same as the 550 minus Bluetooth and a couple other bells and whistles that don't work here anyway.

The LHN is not only much more expensive, but also lacks the option of turning off the sound when you want to.

That was the ball park I was figuring in. I have no need for the blueteeth features anyway.

I was looking at that 60 CS since it seemed like a good fit for me. By the way even with Chrisrmas onlya three day response with these guys, thats pretty good in my book.

This is what Garmo in had to say.

"Thank you that is exactly the answer I needed I think the only product will work is the Zuma 550.

It would seem the only prduct available here in Thailand that would meet the waterproof needs and has voice communication is the Zuma 550?

Ray-

Take a look around this site; http://www.gpscity.com . May be something there to help you out. I have ordered many times from them in the states. I don't know about international shipping.

I just looked at the Scala Q2 on another website and I see it DOES connect via BLUETOOTH so the Zumo 450 would not work. It is made to connect with a standard earphone or speaker jack.

Ya thats what Garmin said as well. so I'm thinking about going to hardwired intercom.

It cost 7K to get the maps with one upgrade. No warranty work in Thailand. so repairs ship to Garmon which I beleive is in China.

Dan gave me an inexpensive intercom system we tried it today really fun.

So for me I can see the value in building some speakers into the helmet with some mikes.

I think blue tooth is going way beyond my needs.

Not interested in compasss I have one on he bike already, don't listen to music while I'm riding and don't want to. Not does altitude or phone calls mean a thing to me.

So I think I really need to adjust my sites on this one

I asked from then abt international shipping and this is what came out

We ship by FEDEX INTERNATIONAL to most countries. First time customers from international countries will have to forward appropriate pictures of their credit card AND picture ID for approval before international orders are shipped. International shipping fees tend to run anywhere from $35 to $50 for a standard shipment. For more accurate shipping costs, add the items you wish to purchase to your cart and select 'International' shipping to see the actual amount.

I personally would like to send pictures of my credint card or ID to "Somebody:

Thanks for all your input guys it is appreciated. The fact is my sights are set to high for my wallet.

Tha Scala Rider Q-2 is probably the best thing out therer adn I donlt doubt that one bit. They are available for sjhort period of time a they lat in Chaing Mai. From a guy that decided not to a distributor at his cost. So definetly a good buy.

But to use the GPS aspect and getting a warranty honered here, it's 41 K

So I have found I want the intercom system, but I may simply go to hard wired system. Frankly a good one is probably going to cost as much a the Q-2 so I will think about that bit. when you compare wholesale to retil prices. So nothing eetched in tone.

I located a source the Etrex Legend actually designed for camping, bit smaller. I have spoken with guys that have used them on bikes and they will handle the rain. No spoken directions but that is where the real money comes into play.

The Extrex Legend CX is available both in Chaing Mai and Bangkok, with one year warranty that will be honored here includes the maps and one upgarde in the one year warranty period for 16K.

Plus a friend is going to let me borrow his for awhile to see if it is going to fit my needs.

Has the tracking capabilty to find those off the wall places that you might want to visit agian. Or set it for home and it will find the way for you. Beeps at you if you make mistake. I think that is good place to start if yuo haev no moer knowledge then I have.

I don't know about the Scala yet have to think a bit more about that.

Yuo know where Dan got it or how much he paid. the only thing I see on it the word Eurodesigns.

The Q-2 is wireless with bike to bike features straight line as well at passengers the entire thing is $270.00 fiom Bob Franks, the guy who worked the Chaing Mai bike week event.

I has a lot of other features but you really need the Zuma 550 to use them.

He decided not to be in the business, so a good buy I think.

If you want PM me and I will give you his e-mail and you can chat with him about it.

The one thing I noticed with Dan's unit was a lot of ambient wind noise from the mike. But, it was wonderful for the LHN and I since we go find out if we would enjoy it without spending a bunch money and the answer we did.

One of the guys on the ride list bought the main unit, the passenger one cost less. He is not happy as it does not work with his GPS for voice direction. He is trying to sale his main unit now for less then he paid for it which was basically wholesale. If you want his information I will be glad to get it to you as well. I opted to purchase through Bob.

As I recall the main unit sales for $180 and the Passenger Unit $90.00 but he ( Bob) is not a shop so once it's gone it's gone.

Maybe Dan will chip in the rest of the info.

anyone know if this unit is blue toothe compatible?
It is NOT. It has no voice capabilities at all. It is an excellant unit for mapping and tracking. Davidfl uses the 76 and I use the 76CS(color). The x model included the upgrade to SD card.

For the average user you would still probably be better off with 60csx.

I wanted the headset for rider to passenger communication really, I can get one at wholesale form Bob in Chaing Mai. So i settled for a new 450 out of the states for $400.00 then I will have the maps loaded into it. I think I will follow arrows too

You can speak rider to rider up to 1500 feet, if the other guys has a head set.
