A brief notice on Steve Prince from Chiang Rai, who has been attending GTR Dinners & the MHS Memorial Ride.
Steve was in Si Satchanalai for the GTR dinner just 2 days ago & did a long ride back home to Chiang Rai via Bo Klua from Si Satchanalai.

However this morning in Chiang Rai, he had a nasty accident & is in a critical condition.

Our thoughts & best wishes for a good recovery asap go to Steve. Su Su mate.

We are all thinking of you.

Absolutely tragic and shocking news. We all had dinner together 2 nights ago in Si Satchanala. I was heading to Chiang Rai next week as Steve had offered to help me with some electrical projects and fabricate me a bracket. I grew up in West London so I always enjoyed the banter with a fellow Londoner. Steve was a rare and original Cockney from the East End. I didn't know him long, but I'll miss seeing and riding with him again.

I enjoyed talking with Steve he didnt beat about the bush and had a great stash of stories about his 10 years in China and life riding motorcycles and just about anything with wheels. I will sorely miss our chats at the GT dinners. Good bloke with a larrikan heart. RIP condolences to family and friends from Brian and Mon.

Shell shocked for Steve, it is hard to express your feelings.
Steve was a great guy. A straight shooter, honest and generous to a fault helping other riders.

1608355075060.png

He also knew how to ride – long & fast, as good as it gets. He didn’t drink but was always great camaraderie & a joy to be with, despite his often bluntness. He was focused & knew where he was going.

Steve had been on multiple GTR MHS Memorial Rides & dinners, & was part of the team.

Many guys had bought parts and accessories from him & Steve was always happy to help fit them and offer advice.

1608355392221.png

Two days before his untimely passing he was in Si Satchanalai with 27 guys for a dinner & night out on the road with his riding mates. It was a brilliant time out together.

1608355907506.png

The next day with Mark, he rode home to Chiang Rai via “the longest way” possible: Si Satchanalai – Uttaradit – Nam Pat – Bo Klua- Pua - R1148 – Chiang Kham – Thoeng & home. Riding was his passion & he did it well.

So to get taken out in an accident the way he did, so close to home the next day, leaves you speechless & shell shocked.

RIP Steve.

You will be sadly missed by your riding mates on GTR and for the enthusiasm you had for life.

Our condolences to his family & close friends.

I was lucky to know Stephen for a couple of years, met him through Brian from Chiang Rai Big Bikes who ive known for years, Brian and Stephen are/were partners in their Chiang Rai UTV tours, which was just getting going when this Covid bullship came along, ive known Brian way before I lived in Chiang Rai (2 x years now)

I got along great with Steve, yes he had a stutter and spoke loudly, maybe he was partially deaf but you would not meet a more helpful bloke, a real character...........ive got lots of great memories...............only last tuesday I took my Honda into Chiang Rai for a service and new chain.......... I headed to my usual Rose Bar about 5pm for a few beers, I messaged Steve to ask him about his plans to ride to Si Satchanalai for the GTR Christmas Dinner, his reply...........fooken hell Gav are you in CR now ?, yes mate, give me 30min and ill come join you, and so did Mark from Phaya Mengrai..............we met the following day and had a great ride to the GTR dinner :D

Another time me and Stephen and Jamie from Chiang Rai rode down together to Chiang Mai for the 2020 GTR Memorial Ride..... we went via Fang, Steve says ive a got a different route to take you through the mountains to Chiang Mai..........I asked him, is that the turnoff at Hinoki Land, the Japanese Temple and he said No............ 15min later we turn left at the Japanese Temple :)........... I questioned Steve and his reply, when the fook did they build that, it wasnt there before :D.... made me laugh, its huge :p

Looking at all the photos being posted today shows he had lots of good mates........................only a few weeks ago I went to Chiang Rai for a night out, I went past the UTV Tours workshop and stopped as Steves bike was out the front.......... what are you upto Gav ?, I said I was just out sightseeing, was headed to the suspension bridge over the Mae Kok river but stayed at Steves workshop instead, got the grand tour of the plans for the new Coffee Shop, work in progress with lots of custom touches................he said lets have a drink, I passed him 100 baht and said my buy, no fooking way Gav, you come to my workshop I buy the drinks, too early for a beer for me so we had a coke together :p

Out of the photos being posted today brought back good memories, some I had forgotten about.................he was a fast rider, and I always say if you want to go fast Steve go 1st, just wait at the next turnoff, which he did, you would see him parked up with a smoke in his mouth :D............after our lastride, if I had of known he was going to leave us so soon I would of given him a big hug and said I am going to really miss you

Till we meet again Stephen, Princy or China Steve as he was known RIP

Steve's funeral.

A group of guys from Chiang Mai & GTR got together on the Monday night, to celebrate Steve's life at a few of his favourite hang outs in Chiang Rai.

Watty's Rose Bar was the starting point

An excellent supply of free sausages was most welcome.

The big day & cremation.
The meeting point was at the hospital to take delivery of Steve & go direct to the crematorium.
A few of us meet at Baan Jaru & rode to the hospital.

The many riders - Thai & Farang - were an excellent testimony to Steve's popularity.
Apart from the local Chiang Rai guys, riders came from Chiang Mai, Tha Ton, Phayao, Thoeng, Chiang Khong & Khon Kaen.
David Lek rode up from Chiang Mai in the morning & went back to Chiang Mai after the funeral.
Steve Merchant also came & went back from Tha Ton in the same day.
Well done guys all of you.
