Today was an exceptional ride, from Phayao on the R1251, R1091 to Pong. Then some endless corners on R1179 and R1148.

Turned off R1148 at Na Rai Luang taking the R1079 and finishing up in Pua. Staying at the PuaDeView Boutique Resort, and had dinner at Little La Cuisine, which was nice, a small selection of western type dishes.

Terry’s luggage is now at the hotel in Chiang Mai.

We started the day with a very adventurous ride from Pua to R1256 in the Doi Phu Kha National Park. Started well with a nice roads for the accent, but gradually deteriorated, with steep washed out dirt sections. google link below.

Chai Watthana to 1256

For a bit more of a challenge, took R1333 and R1257 to Nan

Excellent. Any idea where the asphalt / dirt starts and finish at both ends?
I could use the info for the forthcoming GTR Nan guide map.

The climb was all nice bitumen, once at the top the road was deteriorating cement, then dirt. The link shows the aproximate beginning. The end of the dirt after the creek is accurate, at an intersection. I neeeded to use first gear for over 200 metres to climb out of the valley.

Today we rode up to the Myanmar border, then did those ridiculously short and steep switch backs on the R1334. Had to produce our passports at three check points.

We took the road from Ban Thoed Thai to Mae Salong. Looked easy on google maps, and was very scenic and interesting until the last couple of km. Crossed a creek on a new bridge then the road turned into seriously steep switch back single track. We made it out, but in after thought should have turned back.

Stayed the night in Fang at the Phumanee Home Hotel

Yesterday we went back up the mountains on R1249, then to R1178 which was full of pot holes. Finishing in Chiang Dao, staying at the Marisa Resort & Spa.

Today we headed into Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, past Doi Lhung Chiang Dao Viewpoint, finishing in Mae Hong Son.
