Day 8 is the one that turned out very special but by no means went to plan.
Right from first light very little cloud around Ta Xua. That is a first for me coming here. Last October we went to the Spine for breakfast and literally didn't see a thing.
Around to the Spine for breakfast where Ms Thuan who does the tastiest pork skewers I've ever had never let us down. Up with Gurtie for some great overhead shots and we would be away.
Thuan gets into traditional dress and with some encouragement from my wifebursts into song. The morning was heating up, the valley just gorgeous, she had ice cold beer and I'd seen a new accommodation I thought I should check out. Plan B was enacted so Dien Bien Phu would wait another day.
Unloaded some gear at our new valley view bungalow and set out to explore a bit more of the valley. Always wanted to do that but difficult on a schedule with a group so the perfect opportunity. Being a Sunday perfect also with all the kids off school. Always nice to see the way these kids react to us.
Not too far from the Spine is a nice waterfall though like most at the moment far from full flow. It's a proper 1000 metre hike so with my knee still not 100% gave that a miss but sent Gurtie up for a look. An opportunity for a cool off just near the bike park in any case.
Early evening on the rice wine with a few local lads. Proud of their brew they assure me no headache so let's see.
