Regularly searched for information to drive to Vietnam with their own motorbike, little information on costs, eventually ended up at Flamingo Travel in Hanoi, price for 4 riders 800 us dollars, expensive is how you see it, we were two of us, 400 us each, Flamingo took good care of the papers to cross the border and made sure we got a Vietnam number plate,
I had been there regularly for work and thus had some idea for the route and hotels,
Was a one-off experience and glad that we did it, do you like challenge then do it,
The problem we had were at the border on the Laos side in Chiang Khong (I have been several times in Laos without problems) after we made the paper work and visa the police called us in and they told us that we were not allowed to pass without a permit, fewer than 4 riders were allowed to drive alone but with a permit and larger groups with an escort, since we will be in northern Lao in 2 days s we had to be at the border, we were stuck, and we finally had to pay 100 us dollars each, normally I was turned around,
In Vietnam we had inquired about speed limit, this would be 80 km per hour outside built-up areas and 60 km p / h in the cities, north little police to see, south is looking out, on the last day they flashed us downhill driving 83 km / h I had, but according to the police, motorcycles were big or small but 60 km allowed so you understand that it cost money, they threatened with seizure of motorcycles, 300 000 dong (80 euros), we drove the last day quietly and saw a lot of control,
on the border Bo Y - Pờ Y, Ngọc Laos they had no experience with Thai motorcycles, and let us cross the border without a single paper, in Chong mek we pushed ourselves a bit and drove back into Thailand without any problems.
Many thanks to mr. Hung Nguyen of Flamingo
