Cruising down Paradise Road to Chiang Saen for a quick brekky on the sly you pass the entrance to three Hmong villages.
Two of them I noticed were a bit concerned about the Corona Virus pandemic attacking their communities & had some spiritual protection up at the entrance....

Now I wonder if anyone else has noticed these spiritual guardians protecting other ethnic animist villages - Karen, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Yao at this time?

And how the old GTR bloke covers up going for a stroll at dusk on the river.

I was fascinated by this village as it did not appear to be an ethnic village - Hmong, Yao, Kamu that I could identify & spoke with a lady to confirm that red was indeed the required colour to keep out the spirits. We conversed in Thai & there was no hint of another ethnic language, such that I forgot to confirm 100% on the village's ethnic identity or culture. I need to go back & confirm that they are "khon muang" or something else.

The breeze got up not long after this & it was time to make a dash back home to Chiang Khong, via Kaeng Pha Dai to check on the Mekong as it flows off into Laos.

Sad news IMHO that there is more development of Kaeng Pha Dai & a beautification project is going full speed ahead.

Probably stand more chance of success than some of the “People are telling me great things about...” Politician-Virologists tout as instant successes on a daily basis.

No worries David, it was a great day out, I was surprised that hardly any of the mountain villages we visited had people wearing masks, whether they have stopped or just never bothered would be an interesting question.

Down my way a visit to town involves mandatory wearing of a mask, otherwise you will be refused entry to the shop or market.

A few weeks ago when I rode up to Mae Sai I did notice the spiritual guardians at the entrances to some of the villages on Paradise Rd, straight away it made me think of this thread on GT Rider.
