Wat Haad Bai has their annual Salak festival on Sunday 13 September.

Haad Bai is a Tai Lue town on the Mekong 31 kms upstream from Chiang Khong, on the river road R4007

Merit making ceremonies supposedly start in the morning with the parade & dancing to start around midday, they claim = classic Thai time.

Dont miss the magnificent Takhong cafe / restaurant / resort on the river in Haad Bai

55 I got away late for this festival & missed the main dancing festivities at the temple, arriving there about 11am.

The end of the dancing & merit making was all I caught

Once the dancing is out of the way, it is lunch time & then merit making.
The villagers first make merit in the wat

and then outside with individual monks from various wats

In September every year, all around the North you can find Salak festivals in all the tambons.
If you've never seen one before they are well worth checking out for a piece of traditional North Thai culture.
