We return home after a great week-long trip to the Nan and Phrae area, with a short getaway to discover the surroundings of Doi Pha Tang and Phu Chi Fah that we did not know.
The first day was to travel from Chiang Mai to Thoeng, avoiding the 118 road and joining Phayao to lunch on the 4063, 1252, 1035 and 120 roads.

The walk along Phayao Lake and lunch on a waterfront terrace were really nice.

We strolled to Phayao, visited a temple, and then quietly joined Thoeng via Chiang Kham.

Our hotel in Thoeng was very ok for the affordable price of 450 baht, breakfast and wifi included. Some parking spaces are covered. The Wattanawan hotel is located by the road about two or three kilometers from the city center. The city of Thoeng is not touristy and the restaurants are not very numerous and during the week, it seem they close early in the evening.

The next morning, we left early to reach Doi Pha Tang before the light was too bright for the photos. The trip via the road 1155 then 4029 was very pleasant in the freshness of the morning.

After leaving the bike in the Doi Pha Thang parking lot, we climbed a very nice trail of just over 2 km to reach the summit where the view is really beautiful.

Some scenic views of Lao border and the Doi Pha Tang are stuning in early morning.

We headed back to Phu Chi Fah and the Phu Sang Waterfall on Route 1093 which offers great views but needs much repair in many sections. We had a lunch break in Phu Chi Fah but did not climb to the top because there was a kind of big local Doi festival and a lot of people that day.

We then reached Pua via the fantastic route 1148 which is a pure joy to go. We were lucky enough to arrive on Magic Mountain Café and Phulangka Resort at the golden hour and the light was fantastic.

We met a retired teacher who lives nearby and who told us that, according to him, the best view was from the Mountain Café but it was unfortunately already closed. We will return during the rainy season, when nature will have recovered colors.

The 1148 road is a pure gem for riders and it is an intense joy to drive a motorcycle on such a road with absolutely superb landscapes.

Hi Nelska - the photography in this trip report is stunning, a visual symphony! And the 1148 is indeed a joy to traverse, regardless of which direction you travel. It is 4 years since I last went that way, but I hope to be back there soon... :)

Thank you David, Yes, I guess the 1148 road can make all bikers very happy. We really fell in love with the province of Nan and we will return during the rainy season, when the nature and rice fields will have returned to their beautiful green colors ...
See you soon !

Thank you so much.
It is a real pleasure to share our modest experience with the GT Riders and I hope that our trip report will inspire others to come to Northern Thailand, which is a real paradise for bikers.
Thank you to you for all the trip and good advise you shared with us.
