A very pleasant trip this week, with Tom and Liam to Chiang Rai Saddlebags and then on to Mae Salong. Peak season there now, as well as some Bangkok people escaping floods. Little home is usual destination, but full so directed to Maesalong Mountain Home, which is run by the brother of the Little Home proprietor. it is located on a sloping hillside down the road passing the 7/11 and past the Flower Hills resort, left hand side after a km or so a left turn indicated by a Maesalong Mountain Home sign, from there it is well signed about a further Km, small road, steep in places, but concrete surface, leads to the Home. The easy way if cannot find, is to phone them on 0846119508 and they will send a small bike to meet you at the 7/11.
It is a great natural location with superb views and good hillside accomodation. Restaurant on site, WiFi available. Bungalows with twin or double beds are 500 Baht, or more luxurious for 800 baht. Clean and all one needs, No air but with cool nights, you do not need it in Mae Salong. Great showers, PSI satellite TV. The owner is very helpful and speaks good English, (as well as Chinese and Thai and maybe a few more).
If feeling fit, there are some walks around the hillside, to the tea plantation, or down to the river.
Some views of the location, the bungalows and the surrounding countryside. They speak for themselves.

Little Home - 10 November update

I managed to get the last room about 30 minutes before John Gooding arrived. I was given room 1F which is in a bungalow adjoining another room. It was comfortable but not the quietest place at which I have stayed. 500 baht/night and I do believe the owner charged the Thai's a little more. I think he likes us GT Riders.

Not stopped at Little Home as yet, but will do sooner or later. 2 or 3 of us usually go there for lunch every 2 or 3 weeks. Always a nice welcome, food good & well priced. Altogether a super family!

We love Little Home Bungalow and the hospitality is always the best! Glad to see the grandkid! Last time we were up there we got a pointer to go to a little village called Jabu-see. Made for a great day outing, but the climb back of the hole after some rains was a bit greasy.

Following previous visitors' advice I opted on Maesalong Mountain Home. It is the high season and the price for the basic bungalow was 1000 baht. Everything was superb from service to surroundings, but I will say my mattress was the most uncomfortable one in which I have slept in a long time. I think it was actually a box spring.

This place is so peaceful. Next time I think I will walk down to the valley and get some real exercise.

Another great stay at Shin Sane for us, bungalows still 350B a night, basic but good value. Mr Ho is still going strong, as is his sidekick Aqua. Aqua told us they will be updating rooms and bungalows over the next year, so there may be a price increase if/when they're done. Food and beer good value, free water and Chinese tea, and lovely that they still operate a trust system where you can help yourself and tell them in the morning if you stay up later than they do :)

Little Home has been expanded and is now YELLOW, so you'd have to try really hard to miss it! Have never stayed there but had a nice meal one evening for a change from Shin Sane.

Rocking up in DMS at high season & expecting a room is somewhat problematic nowadays.

At 2pm I phoned for a room at Sue Sue, Shin Sane, Little Home - all full. A phone call to Ton at Sweet Mae Salong was next asking him to find me a room for the night. He rang back in 1 1/2 hrs & had one booked at Khumnaiphol. The last one at Khumnaiphol & possibly in DMS as Ton had rung 8 places for a room. Doi Mae Salong is definitely on the tourist map now.

the 800 baht room at the Khumnaiphol

I prefer old look of Little Home though....during my last visit they were building that terrace where your gf sitting, construction debris was all over the place. Looks great now.

We stayed in the main building, room just above the signboard. THB 800, very clean and spacious. This was back in August.
Saw the Shin Sain next door, it looked in quite sorry state, but after looking at your photos looks as if they fixed it a bit.

The bathroom shower has amazing water pressure - as good as anything in Nan, plus it is boiling hot. A total winner in the cold season .
