Guys if ever plan on heading up north and are not familiar with it. It might be handy to remember where this is. Almost a month of research and interviews went into to this. Which included driving David crazy along with Capt Slash and Tung Dee

Chiang Rai: Garden House
A really nice guesthouse in Chiang Rai is Garden House (formerly Ya-house), 1,5km west of the main strip/market/bus station. 150 B for a "bungalow" (to storey private small houses with a balcony), a shady, palmy garden and the most dedicated owner I have met. (He offered all kinds of help when I was running around trying to buy a bike)

FROM DAVIDFL on 13 Dec 2007
Just spent a night in Chiang Rai & my fave hotel, the Nimseeseng was booked out, so my riding buddy Mark Rossi in town ahead of me got us into the Sport Inn oposite the Red Rose Hotel for 500 baht a night.
Now it seems to me as if this high season is going to be a good one with hundreds of Bkk Thais touring around in their cars, & rooms might not always be so easy to getfirst up, or without a booking. So I cruised around town a bit checking out the parking situation & noted that the Sabai Inn, just a few hundred metres from the Sport Inn looks similar, but with under cover parking. Might be worth checking out for next time.

2. Resort run by Dutch guy. (His card all in Thai) Turn Left at side of MP gas station, on left going north through town. 053 388 255 Stayed here 1 nite, the Dutch guy, has about 5 brand new bungalows, 250 baht a nite. He even came out to main road to show us way in. Great Place.

John is a characterful Aussie who went out of his way to help us - he straight off gave us a lift down to Tony's in his recently built chair outfit to pick up some bikes and then lent us full face lids from his own collection! He can ride a bit too....!!
You have to take your chances on room availability as there is no booking system but there are quite a few rooms.

, down a little alley/lot

1. KRUA CHIANG SAEN Restaurant. Another big thumbs up for this place.
Excellent value for money, superb food, big servings low prices.
River side on the 'Khong, opposite Gin's Ghouse at the Golden Triangle end of town!
The Happy Go Lucky Girlfriend singer, who knows her food, insisted we eat there again. And we did last night: huge fish, fresh fresh vegies & tasty spicy Thai salads. And very inexpensive. Check it out. Highly recommended!

Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you know that the prices for our Place (on and Kurt's Restaurant and Guesthouse) and Cees Place have changed a little.

Our room is now 250 Baht per night and still includes water at night and free brewed coffee in the morning. It is now a little suite with two nice sofa chairs, a sitting area outside the room and private bathroom with hot shower

Cee's Bungalows now all have satelite TV and are 300 Baht per night

Numerous guesthouses and Western restaurants have sprung up during the past year in Chiang Dao, which makes it a nice place to use for a base, when exploring Northern Thailand by motorcycle.

The road to Chiang Dao, from Chiang Mai, is nearly completed and all paved now.
