Hi guy's (and girls) I ride a Honda Phantom, (stop laughing) it's my first bike and I think I could do with some advice on the best tyres to fit as the originals are looking a bit worn. I am doing the usual riding around town with an escape now and then for a couple of days riding around northern Thailand.
I am in Chiang Mai, any recomendations?

I HAVE A PHANTOM & REPLACED ORIGIONAL S***T TO DUNLOP
K555 ON REAR & K275F FRONT.I UNDERSTAND THIS IS THE ONLY
DUNLOP TYRE AVAIL TO FIT PHANTOM.

BIG IMPROVEMENT IN CORNERING, BREAKING & RIDING IN RAIN.
CHECK THE PRESSURE OFTEN..

These Phantom tires must be made of the hardest rubber available, I've talked to several owners who got 25 -30,000 km out of the REAR tire!

when replacing tyres is better to improve the handling rather than geting
more milage. more milage usualy facters back to less grip to tarmac,
& as roads in thailand are recognised as sub standard you need all the
advantage avalable.

i would rather less milage than going slow so not to slide on corners,
rough road, oily greasy slipery roads are a handfull in the dry, when wet
times 100.

good tyres are proberly the most important safety aspect when riding
motorcycles especialy when inexperenced. (brakes also).. good luck..

Stop takin the piss! javascript:emoticon('')
The bike is faster than me at this stage, I'm a very cautious rider and not at all in a hurry. I enjoy the journey and am usually looking for good pics.

Captain Slash, you know a thing or two about replacing tires, how much do you get out of a rear tire on average? Of course it depends on what kind of bike, quality and type of tire, how you ride it aso, but where would you put an average? 10-15K km? 15-20K? And what's average ratio on front tires to rear? 1:1,5? 3 rears for 2 fronts?

my phantom will scrape the pegs & recover with good tyres.
but this is about safety. when we venture out nothing is certain & what is
around the next corner, over the hill or at next interection is unpredctiable
& mr jacko is based in chiang mai with iner city roads covered in oil, if you
also doubt this just slide your foot across the surface especialy around the
moat area. but i do take your point ( hey daddy did you notice that topic if
for phantom i havent realy seen them speeding through courners lately.)

but marrccoo there are phantoms & phantoms & they are capiable of
"speeding through courners" much faster than that car you drive & try to pass of as a motorcycle
