A brief update.
Many thanks to the guys who turned up for a fantastic night on the Mekong listening to some good music.
Ample beers & stories went down before the end of the night & I was pleased to get home safely @ 2AM, from Chiang Roy Pub, to leave a couple of night owls at it until 4AM. Welcome to Chiang Khong Koen & Alex, you fit right in & enjoyed yourselves.
I don't have a lot of pics to share as I was heavily involved in organizing the music festival event held at the same time, but would like to sincerely thank the few guys who came along for the night.
Dave DKT & Ning.
Hawk.
Alex.
Brian Sage.
Koen.
Derrick.
It was a damn good relaxing night.
My pics from the music event.
The stage location on the river front outside the Fortune Hotel.
The seating area in the cool shade outside the Fortune & close by to the beer stall, food & toilets. All very convenient.
Dave DKT tasting his first big beer Lao. I got a couple of cases in for the night 1 for the singer Ms Eve & 1 for personal consumption.
It is amazing the difference in the flavour between Beer Lao in big bottles & Beer Lao in small bottles / cans. Big bottles are a total winner everytime, & small ones are disappointing in a direct comparison; but for most people if you can only get small ones.
The 2 singing stars of the night were Xaria & Eve
Xaria is a professional Filipino singer, who sang in Bkk @ the Sheraton & Marriot hotels for years, lost her singing job due to covid a couple of years ago and ended up in CL teaching English.
They both delighted the audience with their singing,
Eve & Fluke in action.
Fluke is an excellent guitarist with good feeling & touch. For the Chiang Mai guys he has often played with Chiang Mai Blues when in Chiang Mai.
With the "new" Nai Amphur (district cheif / administrator) of Chiang Khong district.
He was sufficiently impressed with the music night to approve a full-on big event the same as the original Chiang Khong Music Festival we organized before pre-covid.
It's taken awhile but finally it is going to happen a music night by the Mekong @ Chiang Khong. 2019 Chiang Khong Music Fest The date: Saturday 21 December 2019. Supported by TAT Chiang Rai, Boonrawd / Beer Singha ++ The top blues musicians from Chiang Mai will be playing + & jazz band + Joe...

The plan...
1. Jazz Band.
1. Blues Band.
1. Rock band (Midnight Ramblers.)
1. Lao band TBC.
On another note, I will try again to organize a
GTR Takhong Sunset Dinner with Ms Eve & Fluke to entertain us under a Takhong Sunset.
One of the beauties of Thailand & Laos is the magnificent Mekong river that sees thousands of people enjoy a late afternoon / dusk happy hour drink &/or a meal as the sun goes down. If you are on the Laos side you generally get to watch the sun go down across the river in Thailand, and the...

It will only happen if there's enough support from guys to enjoy & share the night with @Takhong.
More than likely it will be on a Saturday night, with Eve & Fluke performing 45 minutes before & 45 minutes after sunset.
Stay tuned &
TQ everyone for your support in advance. Let's do it!
