Early morning I set out from my home near the Top Up Tech School on 1317 in Mae On. Just past the village of Huai Kaeo I bear right off Rte 1317 (Sam Kampaeng Road) and stopped at Tharn Thong Lodge for a pick-me-up coffee before the challenging ride across the mountain to Chae Son. This is a great place and quite a gem to us locals. It is an easy ride out here from Chiang Mai.

The road over the mountain was being maintained in spots, but I found a lot of dirt, leaves and water.

Over the mountain it becomes quite rural before the town proper of Chae Son. This next shot is looking at a little road damage.

Taking a left here will take you to the 1317 extension not far from Coffee Corner. I stayed right on 1252.

Challenging switchbacks for this new rider:

Funeral procession near Thep Sadet. I almost dropped my bike parking on mossy road. Very dangerous, that mossy road. ;-)

It feels good to open the throttle a bit here after winding through the mountains.

Thanks for the excellent report and pics, you are certainly getting around the region, and why not, given the fantastic riding conditions at the moment, (as long as one can cope with the road damage from the wet season, and the following road repairs)

Capt Slash,

Kevin (fishenough) mentioned your name last evening. I am looking forward to meeting you down the road. Thanks for the reply.
