Huay Xai To Luang Prabang

I've come in at Chiang Khong / Huay Xai before and road on 3 to Nateyu to get on 13 down to Luang Prabang, This is the route Google maps shows. If I use Kurviger they show a more direct route.

Attached is the Google map, Google route in blue, I'd drawn in the approx Kurviger route, and also attached the Kurviger map.

Recommendations? Experience on that Kurviger route? I think it's starts or the early part is 2201 and then 4A and a ferry at the end into Luang Prabang?

I'd say this is the new road from Luang Prabang to Hongsa . Muang Neun, then to Pak Beng, then the dirt trail alongside the river up to Houei Xai.

mmm not sure we want to bother with dirt unless it's in good shape - should be dry that time of year... Anyone ridden this recently?

About 5 years back I was coming from Vang Viang and took the left hand turn in Kasi off of 13 up to Muang Nan, Xayaboury and crossed back into Nan Thailand at Muang Ngeun. I'd consider crossing into Laos at Muang Nan on this trip but I can't quite determine if that's possible.

Google maps will just get you lost at best. Kurviger uses Open street map, OSM. Maintained and updated by locally riders.
The route from Paktha via Pha-Oudom to Pak Beng is great on 50/50 tyres. Pak Beng via Hongsa to LPG is a blast.

Thanks for the info. Noted on Google and have had a few WTF moments with Google maps myself...

I'm more 90/10 tire so I'll look into this a bit more before we head down that road.
