^ But the little Duke 200 is still more expensive than the CB500F assembled here.

Gooday mates, my 1st post here... has been reading up some post on Ducati 795 and Dukes.
Im from Malaysia (the Southern tip of Malaysia) and are planning to ride up to Bangkok somewhere February 2014.

Currently still looking at some bike that can withhold the journey.

My short list are Duke 200 and 390

Well, just for the information, below are Malaysian price of Duke 200, 390, 690 and 690R
and converted to USD. In Malaysia, nothin is cheap, i guess so does in the
land of smiles .. in terms of hobbyist gadgets.

Duke 200 RM18,800 = USD5,968
Duke 390 RM26,500 = USD8,413
Duke 690 RM46,500 = USD14,762
Duke 690R RM52,500 = USD16,667

Exclude road tax and insurance.

regards, Phil

Duke 390 list price is 339.000 baht, if I recall correctly.
Not too bad and lower than I thought it would be, but a long way from the price in India.

I went on a two day bike trip in India with some friends there. We had two Yamaha FZ1's (Great Bikes), a CBR 600, and a KTM 390 Duke.

First off, the KTM 390 did not have much problem keeping up with the big bikes up to about 150 KPH. At times it surprised me that it was able to hang. I rode the KTM for a couple of hours. It is a great bike, especially for $4000 in India. It's brakes work extremely well, not to mention them being ABS. I am 187cm, and it did not feel all that small on me. The sitting position is good, and the seat is nice and wide.

The throttle comes stock with a ton of play. Not to mention you have to readjust your grip to get the throttle full. It is a common complaint on the bike, and that would be the first thing that I would modify.

Second thing I would modify are the hand levers. The stock ones are too thin for my liking.

The Indian model comes with cheap steel engine bar protectors. Similar to what you see on a lot of bikes in India. Those would come off

The Indian model also comes with a rear tire guard. Which is probably on there to attach the Indian mandated "Sari Protector" that bikes come with. My friend took that off, so I never saw what it looked like.

The display has a ton of advanced information. I did think that the RPM numbers were a bit on the small side to read, but I guess after you ride the bike for a while you just can tell where the RPM is.

The bike definitely likes to be revved out, and wants to pull at the higher RPMs.

These bikes would sell like Monster 795s if the price was reasonable here in Thailand. I only wish I could buy one for the price they pay in India!
