Laos border crossing @ Tay Trang now open?

HI a Laos friend told me that the Laos border crossing linking Muang Khua in N Laos and Tay Trang in N Vietnam has recently opened to foreigners. Previously only locals could cross. Can anyone confirm this?

Dien Bien Phu is only about 40km from Tay Trang. While not being able to take larger bikes across I was hoping to leave our bikes at the Laos border side and do a day trip to DBP.
Any one crossed here recently to DBP?
Thanks Geoff

Welcome to the GT Rider board.
Yeah the "Dien Bien Phu" border was officially opened in April 2007.

I dont know about foreigners using it on a regular basis yet. Maybe someone else knows & can tell us.
Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but certainly no bikes into Vietnam.
Also probably not recommended to park your bike out there at the border & hope that it will be there when you come back.
Jimoi - what do you reckon?

Just sharing my experience from February 2017: You can cross this border from Vietnam to Laos by foot or any public transport. But you can ONLY cross it by Vietnamese motorbike if it is registered in the local province, hence your license plate has to start with "27". Even then, for tourists this might still not be possible.
