Some info I have been able to dig out.

Tan Kuay Salak Tradition" or "Salakpat Tradition", (Thai: #ตานก๋วยสลาก / #สลากภัต) it will be done from September until October every year. It is an ancient tradition in which Lanna people pay tribute to their deceased ancestors, relatives, friends, lovers, children, grandchildren, or pets by making merit through something called “Kuay Salak.” "Kuay Salak" is weave from bamboo into a cylindrical shape (Chalom). The inside is wrapped with banana leaves or turmeric leaves to be used for packing rice, dry food, fruits, betel nuts, necessary items, flowers, incense sticks, candles, etc. Lanna people bring their "Kuay Salak" together to the temple to perform Buddhist ceremonies.
