For those who have not stayed in Pua before, the Chomphukha Resort has a nice covered area overlooking town that is well-suited to sundown beers and snacks...

Guess what! I'll be there. Not because it is just up the road from me..
No. It's because I can ride and meet likewise riders.
David: Please book me a room next to someone who will appreciate a single malt as a night cap!

It will be good to hook up again.
For a room I have not actually booked mine yet as I'm still in Vientiane, but will take what I can get when I arrive, hopefully the Chomphu Phukha. Otherwise there are a lot around the immediate area from memory. So if you want to go ahead & organize yours you can. I''m here in Vientiane for a few more days yet. See you in Pua, rain hail or shine. LOL.

The Chomphu Phukha has plenty of rooms left @ 590 baht.

If your riding over try to arrive by 3.30-4pm when the rain starts.
Bring a small brolly for the rain, walking between pubs might be a good idea.

Rendezvous is the Chomphu Phukha restaurant over looking the highway 5pm,

Well I think everyone is safe back at home, after a super meet up in Pua in the rain; not that the rain dampened anyone's spirits.

    Ben came from Mae Sarieng.
Brian from Roi Et via Phitsanulok
Ian came from Chiang Saen - rain all the way!
Bungy, Richard & Captain Wally came from Chiang Mai in the rain.
Oddvar came up from Nan, and I was in Pua the day before, heading home after a trip to Vientiane.
Well done guys, it was a fun night swapping stories & trip plans.

First drinks & meeting was at the Pua De View
    DSC_3435-01.

Dinner was at the Chomphu Phukha & it was a good meal indeed (I thought).
    DSC_3440-01.

We then preceded to hit the night spots of Pua

    and the magic Seeds Pub

The next morning we all split up & left at various times, most of us in the wet - light rain.
I got home to Chiang Khong at 5.30PM

A big thanks to Brian & his partner who came from Khon Kaen for the dinner. I hope you can make a few more.
Also coming from Mae Sarieng in one day. Well done.

    Cheers everyone.

Great to meet up with everyone again.
I rode about 600 klms, there and back, I think it didn't rain for about 20klms, hahaha...... no problem, nice and cool...

    1148 on the way there
    2018-07-25 11.22.58.
Next day on Chiang Klang - Song Kwae ridge road.

The headlamp nacelle on this bike is a good design and completely protects the head bearings, when riding in the heaviest of rain.

I can only reiterate the comments of the other attendees - a great evening in Pua in excellent company! The people who arrived are as diverse as the bikes they ride, a real United Nations of riders & bikes, united by an interest in enjoying the company of like-minded people. A couple of Kiwis, 3 Aussies, a Pom, a Norwegian, an American and a Thai... Marques included Honda, Harley Davidson, Ducati, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph... A real assortment of men and machines, each from vastly different backgrounds...

    1-rebel-dual-sport.

The Honda's were also diverse, and the Rebel looks like a big bike too - if you position it far enough in front of the Valkyrie! 555

    2-puadeview-hotel.

    3-line-up-in-pua.

The snacks and meals at Chomphu Phukha Resort were excellent, top marks there!

    4-gt-r-team-dinner-pua.

The weather was a minor issue, and provided an opportunity to finally test the effectiveness of the new waterproof riding boots and the storm cover for the big luggage bag...I left home on Wednesday at 6:30 am as the rain stopped and I did not have to put a coat on for the first 500kms. My luck ran out at the Nan Airport... it rained hard from there through to Pua, thoroughly testing everything for leaks! 555

The other standout for me was the wet weather performance of the new Metzler ME888 tyres - damn, they are so good! They have completely transformed the Rebel Dual Sport's handling on gravel roads, and they feel so secure and predictable in the wet. I clocked up another 1,450 kms over three days - from Pua I had to go up to Mae Sai so experienced the same very wet and foggy conditions on 1148 as Ian. I think I passed him as he was having a coffee break at Magic Mountain, just caught as glimpse of a parked Triump's silhouette through the rain...

Thanks to one and all for making the effort to get out and contribute to a most enjoyable night out.

The last Wednesday of the month in August is Wednesday 29 August 2018.
The designated rendezvous town is.....Mae Chan, the centre of the top North, but always overlooked because we are on our way to / from Chiang Rai, Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, the Golden Triangle, Doi Mae Salong or Tha Ton..++

Ian Yonok highly recommends a Mexican restaurant there, run by a genuine Mexican with top notch Mexican food.
More info to come as we gather some ideas.

I for one am up to the challenge - and authentic Mexican food is high on my list of "Preferred Grazing" options...
    - therefore me, myself and I will be there on the appointed day

I'd anticipate some minor night life near or around the Rim Chan resort hotel.

    Mae Chan - Wednesday 28th August 2018.

Another memorable night, despite some considerable uncertainty and a hiccup in the transport to the dinner venue.
I got away late from Chiang Khong so it was a quick blast over the mountains to Chiang Saen, then down the 4-lane to Mae Chan.
    I was late of course.

Ian & Ben were on time of course!
    115165.
Some guys were already at the Mexican & some still drinking at the Rim Chan happy hour.
The Rim Chan wasn't the best for organizing a vehicle to run Bungy & Co down to the restaurant, so I arranged a pick up from the next door massage shop to move the guys 3 kms down the road for 300 baht.

    The Mexican
    GTR - IMG_1930.JPG

    GTR - IMG_1932.JPG GTR - IMG_1931.JPG

I had no complaints about the food, but not everyone agred on how good it was. Just like pizzas perhaps?
    GTR - IMG_1933B.JPG

A "strange looking" Mexican dish that I tried only because I was intrigued on how it was listed on the menu.
    GTR - IMG_1934.JPG
    and it was different!

    The Happy dinner crew
    GTR-DSC_0917.JPG

With dinner out the way it was back to the hotel courtesy of the massage pick up & an "enchanting evening" in the Rim Chan Pub.
    115158.

    115168.

Thanks to all the guys who turned up. Mae Chan is now discovered & on the map.
Apologies for the slow report, Ive only just returned to base in Chiang Khong.

The next date & venue the last Wednesday of the month in September is Phrae (to avoid complaints about no night life) on Wednesday 26 September 2018.

I will see how We go as I will have some Guys from NZ here for a 3 Night Ride. Last two Nights will be Chiang Kong and Chiang Rai so staying at Phrae would make a long haul the next day all the way to Chiang Kong without much time for sight seeing?
