Hi guys,
I may be new to the site, but not new to Thailand.
Having read many, many posts over the past few years, with regard to shipping over a road use motorcycle from the UK, it is more than clear, trying to do this is a non starter, for many reasons..

I may be right or wrong, but I have heard, there are people who ship motorcycle parts into Thailand via container???
I could be interested perhaps, to bring in some specific classic race bike parts by this method.
Not! using the normal international carriers like Fed ex, ect.
These would be "track only" use items.
Anyone know if this is possible, or who I could contact???

Hi Geoff

Gday & welcome to GTR.

I don't have the definitive answer for you, and I reckon that if it was so easy, a lot of Thais would be doing it, as they would know the system, plus they can read and speak Thai.

Yes, people used to ship used parts and bikes from Japan by the container load.
Red Baron in Bkk were the #1 experts on this. But I'm not sure they are still doing it by the container load.

If you are in Chiang Mai and the North, I would ask John Green at Chiang Mai Shipping.

Here's an old thread about importing a bike

It hasn't gotten any easier, if I understand correctly.

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply, I've sent a message to both Red Baron & John Green.....
Red Baron has replied, apparently you can ship in motorcycle parts, however! you cannot ship in a motorcycle frame, this was banned some 10yrs ago...
Obviously, as the race bike was never in Thailand in the first place, the likelihood of finding a frame here is non existent.....

Hi Geoff, welcome to the forum, I think it is not advisable to import any secondhand parts, I can remember that I read somewhere some years ago that this is now illegal. Anyway having worked in Thailand for a long time for a foreign owned factory I think it is safe to recommend to you not to do it. These were some methods when big bikes were not available here but the situation has changed with some of the manufacturers producing biggies here now. So bikes and parts are available, though not all brands and models. As a hobby I did restore loads of old bikes and spend a fortune in sourcing parts overseas. Especially when shipped with the likes of FEDEX, DHL and others I was always hit by huge customs fees.

Thanks for your reply,
I understand the cost implications, of using carriers like FedEx & DHL etc + import duties & VAT etc.
The fact that the change in Thailand Customs, prohibiting the bringing in of Motorcycle Frames, makes my initial quest redundant.....
I will just have to forget my wishes.

After living here for some years you will find that there are sometimes surprises on old imported bikes on sale, it's just wait and look up several websites from time to time. Shops like Pistonshop have some rare old bikes somewhere stored away, it pays to ask owners of such shops in your neighbourhood... As a Website you can try: kaidee.com (in Thai of course)

It works here, but not elsewhere??
