and visit to the Wangcome Cocoa Farm in Wang Chin, reminded me of a place much closer to home that I intended to check out months ago, but recent events overtook me & I never quite got there, or started a thread "On The Cocoa - Chocolate Trail" that I thought might be interesting for some people. Now it's time to catch up...
Billion Choco Farm
The Billion Choco Farm, located in Sri Dornchai village, of R1020 19 kms south of Chiang Khong, is a small family run business producing chocolate for the "local market." It is an interesting family project, that they are passionate about & learning as they go. They have been at it for 2 years, have 200 trees at the Sri Dornchai farm, & another 2,0000 much further away, with their shop outlet at Sri Dornchai.
The family are eager to show visitors their product & little farm.
Khun Yut, the bespeckled gent speaks half decent English & you can have a lot of fun with him, & indeed the family. Sanuk Dee!
Yut is originally from Bangkok, is a bit of an inventor & will enthusiastically show you his automated temperature controlled drying room, & trick automated bottling kit for fertilizing rubber trees, of all things. He has quite the mind for nifty gadgets.
But back to the chocolate
I was welcomed with an amazing cup of hot cocoa that took my breath away, it tasted so good!
Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything like that & if I could get a cuppa like that all the time, I soon won't be drinking coffee, it was that good!
Chocolate
They have 3 types of chocolate for sale
Dark chocolate
Milk chocolate
White chocolate
I also skipped the 100% chocolate, that I find too bitter to eat.
Another very interesting product was a dried sliver of mango on a leaf.
A bit like a chewing gum I thought, but with both a slightly sour & sweet taste.
Well worth trying for the experience & hard to get I thought.
I've been to a few cocoa - chocolate farms, but seriously this one was the most fun.
Give it a go sometime, you will enjoy yourself.

A ride around Phrae & Long
The 1154 is a great road, recently resurfaced, running through the Mae Yom National Park. The road runs between Ngao on highway 1 and Song. Most traffic going this route goes on the 103, south of the Yom river, leaving the 1154 on the north side of the river, peaceful for riders to enjoy the...
