Taking the Train

Hi, anyone here ever take the train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok? When my MC trip ends I was considering it because my flight in BBK leaves in the AM and I could get there comfortably with without having to spend the night in BKK. The northern line train schedule looks like I can get an AC 1st class sleeper cabin for 1253 baht, depart Chiang Mai at 1750hrs the day before and get into BKK at 0700hrs the next AM well rested. One less night in a hotel to pay for too, seems like it might be fun unless the trains are all nasty there. Any feedback on this? Thanks

Ya Rusty,

I've taken the train from Bkk to CM and I had the double sleeper car...It was a little cramped but clean and they delivered as many drinks and food with a zeal that only a generous tip on the first round can bring....You can walk around and smoke cigarettes by opening the back door on the car. All in all it was great, the clicking from the tracks and the rocking of the car ensures a nice sleep.
