Day 5 and, as always, an absolute pleasure to start a day in Tam Coc. Breakfast was a basic Pho Bo Tai or Banh Mi either of which is always better off the street than in your accommodation. In any case it filled a hole and got us away.
Out of the village on a levee bank and to a wonderful climb up a mountain ridge. The most interesting way out I've found to date. The road was okay and the views all the way up spectacular.
After the decent it was an out and back to Mu Waterfall for a swim and lunch. Running Chicken as it best translates to English is the specialty dish in this area. Rotisserie cooked over coals and basted in a honey marinade. Absolutely delicious. Huong spotted snails and crab so I pretty much got it to myself too
From the waterfall we could have gone back over the range and in hindsight should have . Instead I chose a minority route "one section not mapped on google" that I could see was there on satellite. How hard can it be? Thanking my lucky stars I threw a set of Anakee Wild's on for this trip or no way I would have made it through.
Out the other side a beautiful and uneventful dusk ride into the Mai Chau Valley.
As difficult as the day was at times it was equally satisfying, finishing with a real sense of achievement. No mud on the bar ends though close on a number of occasions and certainly one I'll remember. That's adventure motorcycling!
