Temple Of Preah Vihear

The ruins is one that is in the bucket list having missed it in 2007 while I was somewhere near the belt. Way much quieter than Angkor Wat. Gives a lot of time to be able to soak in the ambience, colors and sense.

Entered through Chanthaburi / Prum Pailin immigration and made a stopover in Samroeng. A half day visit to Prasat Preah Vihear before making an easy exit at Choam Sa Ngam Pass, Anlong Veang - Si Saket border.

Chanthaburi - Pailin - Battambang - Sisophon - Kralanh - Samroeng - Anlong Veaeng - Preah Vihear.

Thai border post which is currently closed.

A lovely temple and a bit out of the way to get to..
No hustle bustle like Angkor Wat..

What did you think of that road up there?
Have they finished it yet.. or do you drop off on to dirt still and have to head up the goat track?

The only time I have really had the ABS seriously kick in was coming back down that concrete track..

Someone mentioned it was not finished due to the demarcation issues for the area surrounding the temple.
Not sure how accurate that is.

Great pictures, I was there in September and it was pissing down, so didn't take that many pictures. Nice to see it in the sunshine.

And the 'safety fence' wasn't there either.

No change on the road construction leading up. Some nervous moments especially going back down. You know what I mean.

Accessible, but extremely doubtful if you can get permission due to the political conflict - near war situation between Thailand - Cambodia over the temple.

I've only seen the Temple from a distance on the Thai side. Looks like a good place to visit.

G'day Hoghead,

No day tripping for some time now.

This is how the area looks today.. You use to be able to cross over for a short period.

Now there is a mine field in that area and fenced off.
