The 3I/ATLAS 14 Day Ride

We will be in Chiang Mai soon, starting our ride on Christmas day.
Staying at the Chirin Home again and bikes from C & P Big Bike Rentals.
If everything goes according to plan, we will be riding some classics such as the 1148, 1081, 1093.
And a few roads we haven’t been on. No challenging remote dirt roads this time.

First stop Onkio. Stayed at the Chalerm Pan Resort Omkoi, LGBTQ+ friendly
Head out of Chiang Mai on the 1013, then onto the 4016, past the king’s Land Rover
Took a concrete and dirt detour up Doi Mon Mak, Mae Chaem
Stop at Wat Ban Khun and checked out the Heavenly Stupa

Back on to the 1099 heading south, a realy nice road with gentle curves
Checked out Wat Chommok
Next stop Wat Kho Pha Do, with spectacular view towards Myanmar
Steep and windy concreat road to Mai Ramat

We tried to ride the 1175 to Tak, but were stopped at a check point and they wouldn’t let us pass. Said something about foreigners and immigration. So took hwy 12 instead.
Turned off hwy1 onto the 1010, then back roads to Si Satchanalai

Sisatch is gorgeous, much better than the Sukhothai ruins IMHO.

This wat outside the main historical site is also fantastic

Check out the railway bridge at Huai Mae Ta, across the Yom River. Saparn Dum, the Black bridge
Stopped at Wat Pa Phutthabat Utthayan Tham Chakkraphat, and looked at some art on the side of a limestone wall

Today’s ride is a 220km loop including the 4010 and 1216
Checked out Phra That Inkhang, and Wat Na Khu Ha
Stopped at the 10000mile Biker’s Cafe By Fairy, but it was closed

Check out the railway bridge at Huai Mae Ta, across the Yom River. Saparn Dum, the Black bridge

I saw it on Ian Yonok's post, A ride around Phrae and Long 2023 and have been curious for a while. I tryed to find it a couple of years ago, but was on the wrong side of the river. Pick of the bomb crater below
The story is that the original bridge had been built by German engineers. During World War 2, an American bomber destroyed the old bridge, this was to sabotage the Japanese use of the railway line

Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri, Spectacular Hatsadiling and big reclining Buddha
Took the 1022 to Sirikit Dam, on a cement road winding through remote mountainous jungle.
Stop at Sirikit Dam for a coffee

BTW, I misunderstood, and thought the post was actually related to Si Satch.

From Nam Pat, took the 117 north, many small land slides and washed away sections of road.

Did the 1256 and the 1081 today, Very busy with Thai tourists.
The 1257 and 1168 were nice and quiet
