I have a Drift Technologies HD170 camera. I like the fact that it has a remote control and has a built in viewfinder. Also, the lenses rotates in the housing so you can correct for any rotational misadlignments in the mounting. It is about 5 inches long and the size of a D cell battery, charges via USB, uses SD memory (about 1GB/20 minutes), and will last about 2 hours on the battery. They have a new version that is lighter, smaller, and has some new features. There are plenty of example vids on utube.

I will be in CMX toward the end of Sept...early Oct for some riding. If anyone is interested, we could met at the Kafe for a look-see. I could bring the laptop for some demos also.

Their website is http://driftinnovation.com/hd170-action-camera/

Regards,

Jim

Hey Toni,
That link got me nothing, only the Kratos name written on it, with no clickthrough link :-( I am leaving for Nepal on Monday, to do the Annapurna Circuit and would love to buy a New GoPro, quickly, before I go, so I can use it on a hat, while I'm trekking and later on my Harley, when I get back. Any idea, where I can find them in Chiang Mai?
Cheers

Hey Kurt,

Yeah, looks like that link has gone dead. A quick google turns up these leads:

Here's a list of GoPro dealers in Thailand:

Click on "other" and there are quite a few retailers in Chiang Mai. Some examples-

You might want to look at this camera. I have one and love it. The neat thing is it has a built in display to review before you shoot and the lenses rotates so it can correct for any mounting angle. The new one is about the size of 1.5 "D" cell batteries. Battery time I get is about three hours.

High guys interesting thread. But, from 2011 what is around these days that you can find in Thailand?

I would like something that could detach an use by hand as well. Does such a beast exist?

Is there something out there you could do stills with as well?

Anything that would charge while it's on the bike.

Which is best Helmet or bike mounts.

Looking for a new Hobby so lot's of questions and no knowledge

Most popular (but that doesn't necessarily mean best) at the moment is definately the GoPro - the dealers for which are in Tony's reply a few above here.

Good to see the thread still is live and well :) and thanks all for your input!

I had to shelf my helmet camera needs for a bit myself due to surgery. It's done now, but it'll be another couple of months before there will be any bike-touring done.
Still dragging around helmet and gear though, so i'll know where to go and what to do when the time comes..:)

Meanwhile, helmet camera-wise, I've been looking more towards budget things and i think i've found something pretty decent. Not that i wouldn't want any of the hard core things, but i can't justify paying that money for something i won't be using all that much.

Anyways here's the review i found. Image (and sound) quality not to shabby for that price me thinks, and got a decent set of features as well...
