Hello I am new on ths forum.Live in Thailand 20 + years but as I work with boats I rarely have the time to travel
away from the (Andaman) coast. For ths year however I plan , when we can do so again, a trip Phuket to the very north of Thailand , following the borders ofr Myanmar and Laos and then back via Udon Tani . The trip will be slow as we will be two up on a kawa 250 tracker but we have plenty of time. Given the type of bike we prefer small back roads , gravel or paved ,as opposed to race track -like highways.
Any tips are very welcome .
Question : de kawa has street tyres which will will be less then suitable for slippery and gravelly roadsurfaces we can expect . Does anyone have tips for more suitable tyres , "50 /50's "?

many thanks

For the Kawa KLX 250 I think the Dunlop 605 is the standard tyre. I have these on my Crf and I think they are great 50/50 tyres. I dont know if they are available in D-Tracker rim sizes though. Dunlop 604 are also ok if youre not after heavy duty offroad tyres, they are something like 80/20 on/off I think.

Pirelli MT60 are also great as mentioned above.

I rode about 8k km in China with Dunlop 604 on my CRF, worked fine. 21/18" rims.
I have a set of 17" rims for the CRF and use MT60 on those.
I guess you will get better milage on the 604.
There is no compromise when it comes to traction.:)

I ride my CRF - on 17's - on gravel and dirt surfaces all the time. In the dry.
Rode my Dyna over 300 km one way to Alaska on the gravel, on a regular basis - with street tires.
No issues - altho' the rear tire of the Dyna weaved continuously at speeds of 100 km +. Just anticipate your moves, as my Daddy used to say - "Be Smooth"
Traction riding gravel 2-up should not be a problem is you stay away from 30% inclines

I really don’t think you’ll have problems riding gravel roads with the standard tyres, Maxim. Last year I rode 8k km from Malaysia up through Northern Laos on a much less suitable bike, with straight road tyres, and it was only in goopy clay that I wished I had something a bit more aggressive.

If you plan on going off-piste bush-bashing, you may want something more suitable, though.
