Bookings for high season are already very heavy for Mr Mechanic, Tony's Big Bikes & Joe's Bike Team.
So if you're thinking about coming in the next 3 months & don't have a booking you need to act asap - book & pay in advance, otherwise the chances are when you arrive you will be sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for a "renta" to come back in!

Looks like the global economical crisis and the mess in Bangkok is not negatively affecting tourism up there...?

Not quite, general tourism & business is way down; but the rental shops have had some big group tour bookings. 8-10-14 bikes at a time for up to 2 weeks, not leaving much for those who plan to just rock up, rent & ride.
So if you're on a limited time frame, don't have time to spare hanging around for a few days waiting for a rented bike to come back, then you need to book & pay in advance to be sure of a bike when you get here.

This is no joke. The better publicised shops were really picked over due to these big groups booking up. Luckily I was able to quickly find a solid Super Four on Soi 5 at Infiniti rentals. Na is a nice gal and the bike has been running flawlessly for the past week and over 1300 kM. And I have been flogging the snot out of it from Samoeng to Inthanon to Mae Sarieng to MHS to AngKhang to Mae Salong and now Chiang Rai. Tremendous trip so far with 2 weeks to go. Should have done this years ago.

I am not shure what area u are talking about but lets face it there is nothing lacking in the motorbike rent department...all the shops are full with bikes around thailand...and suffering from downward going turism..end of story

It looks like all the Honda XR250s are pretty well booked until the end of the year & right into mid January!
So if you need a dirt bike, it's going to be a new Kawasaki KLX250.
Only Mr Mechanic has KLX 250 bookings online.
Go here

for either a KLX or a D-TRacker 250, if you want to be sure of getting a dirt bike this high season. All the new Kawa 250s have full insurance.
