2013 Honda CBR500/CB500R/CB500X

not sure if it was posted yet...but found this video here:

still like the X most the F looks a little better seeing it on the Video.

They have used the 500cc "niche" which is probably become a "big niche" too But i don't really think they will be competitive ( other than the price and fuel usage) to the Kwaker ER6's .

IMO these new Honda's make a lot of sense .... so when looking at this article http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/honda/six-new-2013-honda-models-announced-for-us-91463.html when are we getting the CB1100 ?

Well , lasts a lifetime ??? Maybe the good old "Honda Cub" where " you meet the friendliest people on a honda" you think the crf250L/cbr250R last a lifetime...but ok, none of their or Kawasaki's will be lasting a lifetime IMO

To be honest, we have now 5 Honda Dealers in my Town ....only one Kwaker dealer , i sincerely hope that Honda does get better in educating their mechanics, as for the time being it is a joke. Yes, we have the CBR 250 and CRF 250 here available since a while and they should have done something about teaching mechanics...did they( not here in my place)? The one kwaker dealer has mechanics that are pretty good and a good and clean shop with accessories for the Bikes he is selling.

Generally said i find the creatiion of the 500cc niche better than making a versys or er6's competitor...we have the versys already those who want it bought it already, or will buy it for its purpose. The "X" is not a versys , nor would it be competitive by specs( thats what i actually meant by can't compete), but it doesn't have to and i don't think i would go even into "adventure" rides with it...but it is still a nice and fairly attractive road bike which would suit on not so good roads (which we also he plenty of) plus has a nice seating position.
The price will play a significant role plus aftermarket stuff too....i am sure they sell it well...although the crf250L is miserably sold in my Place ..

I was wondering that too who will sell them....so far the Big Wing sold imported Honda big Bikes while the "provincial wing" sold the local AP Honda made Bikes ....if these CBR500's are made in thailand by AP Honda i'd imagine they also been sold by "provincial wing" they would just need to teach the mechanics - and make sure they follow what has been taught...

No personal experience though how well that service is over and above normal Kawa scooter service in Thailand......

Kawasaki does not sell any scooters since a couple of years ... they stopped with scooters and started with the KSR which was and still is a very good seller for them. Than the followed with the larger bikes ,offroaders, motard...

I think Honda should go at least this route to have in any bigger town one of the dealers to be certified & trained for selling and servicing bigger bikes. But we are talking AP(e) Honda , which could mean what i just wrote is just wishful thinking

Thanks. This is good news. 5% DP!!. Aggressive strategy from Honda. I wonder how many NC700X they will now sell if you can buy a CB500X for less than half the price.

well, they better grow fast then...in nakhonsawan we have a very nice kawasaki dealership , and 5 honda dealers where none of them i would trust a big bike to fix.

I think Honda cannot lower the price of the NC700X much because it is imported from Japan. Ofcourse grey import could be cheaper.

The ER6n being a naked, I would assume that the CBR500 comes closest.

I honestly believe that Honda will be very big very soon in the Thai Big Bike market. Cars, scooters and Big Bikes.

These 3 little bikes are the perfect way to start their attack. It's like 1 size fits all. (I know they already have the 2, 250 models but with these 3 bikes they are really going to start getting serious)

You're right when you compare the different types of bikes. But I was talking about the price - if the actual sales price for the 500X will be 219,000 THB some buyers may say that you get the Er6n with 650cc and quite a few more horses for not much more.

I really appreciate what Kawasaki has brought to the Thai market the last couple of years. They have been providing us with excellent bikes, excellent service and cheap (available) parts (not to mention all the trips etc they organize). I have had 4 of their models and I still have great memories. I have never had any technical issues.

But...don't underestimate what Honda is going to achieve with their Big Bikes in Thailand the coming years. I expect total domination. In Thailand they have all the resources and connections needed to make their Big Bike venture very successful. Thais love the Honda brand.

If you are in the business of supplying bike parts etc, keep an eye on Honda.

Visited the show and got these few pics.
My opinion is that the 700s are too much thin and plasticky the 500s look better and that cubby hole might fit a small helmet only,but would be good dry storage otherwise.

Thanks for posting the pics! I think these bikes look really good for 200K baht, nothing cheap or old-fashioned about them. Of course they're not as flashy as a Repsol CBR600R; you want more power, top speed and flash, pay for it!
Wonder how much better the upside-down forks are on the 500X. If you're not happy with the stock bike you can invest in better suspension, after all, you got it for a low price. But I've been happy with all Hondas I owned, I never pushed them to the extreme where I needed better brakes or suspension. Tires are a different story.
There are lots of riders out there who demand only top-of-the line components but their riding skills are way lower than top-of-the-line...
The storage of the 700X is not huge but it's very practical. Yesterday I took the CBR150R for a spin and on the way home passed a makro store. I thought I should buy some food but how would I get it home? I didn't bring my backpack and hanging things on the clip-ons is a no-no, too dangerous. I couldn't even buy a half-gallon of milk! Went home, parked the CBR, took the Nouvo and went shopping - bread, 2kg of cheese, some meat, milk - it all fit under the seat! Advantage Yamaha.
Unfortunately the 700X is so expensive that you could buy a 500X plus a Nouvo 135 and still have 200K left over - ridiculous!
Anybody in the market for a low-mileage CBR150R? I need some cash for a downpayment!

FYI, the CB500X has standard forks, same as the other two new CB500's.

The 500X in Linds' picture has been heavily modified and those are aftermarket forks.

Also, it's the NC700 "maxi scooter dressed up look like a motorcycle" series that has the big storage under the faux tank, not the CB500's. So if you're looking for a new shopping bike the CB500 isn't going to carry any more than your CBR150. The porky NC700X will set you back 451,000 Baht :shock:

I was aware of that, I was wondering how much better the upside down forks are compared to the stock ones.

Obviously the bike doesn't come with those forks and panniers.

I know. I wrote "The storage of the 700X ..." which is the NC700X to be exact. It won a "Best Standard 2012" award, not a "Best Maxi Scooter" award.

That the 500X has no storage is disappointing but I guess I can't expect that for 205K.

I guess the existence of that price list means this bike is going to cost exactly that, just like the kawasakis - it wont be up to the dealerships like they did with the cbr250. Thats a good thing, no more price gauging.

Big Wing in Chiang Mai is being worked on furiously, at least by Thai standards, I forgot the official opening date but it looks like it will be feb/march 2013 judging from the state of the building.

Are these really the same weight as the kawa 650s? Cbx has 193 kg curb weight but not sure thats dry or wet.

Servicing only at big wing centers is a very good idea. That way Honda can properly train their mechanics and customers will have a better experience. A lot of the shops selling crb 250s right now have no clue about big bikes... Honda is doing the right thing here. Honda being Honda in Thailand I have no doubt big wing centers will appear all over the country in a short period of time.

To me it looks like Honda is fixing the two problems they had with the 250 - incompetent mechanics and price gauging.
