The GTR Dinner @ CSL Restaurant in Si Satchanalai February 2020.

What a mega night - meal & group.
21 people made it to little ol Sisatchanalai & filled the CSL Restaurant for the night.
We were a bit nervous about having this dinner in a small shophouse, but incredibly everything went down well
    1. Cold Beer
    2. Service
    3. The Food. What a bonanza of a feast the fabulous Suwat turned on for GTR. Way more food than we could eat even. It was truly astounding what came out of the little kitchen at the back of the shophouse!

    Some pics

Suwat knew how win a few hearts with some GTR bread straight off

Thanks to everyone who came, & especially Dave Carrell who is in a battle with the big C. We wish you all the best Dave - keep the power on mate.

The next day most guys made it for breakfast & were not disappointed again @ 89 baht!

After which everyone went on their own way home.
Some stayed on to check out the Sukhothai ruins.
Some went to Chiang Rai via Nan & R1091.
    Some went home via R1 & R11
    Some went back up R101 & R11.
The way to go, everyone sets their own pace & route to enjoy a nice ride out as they please.
Bring on the next GTR dinner

For me it was a great allround event.

The hard bit is trying to make the next one better ?

Which IMO is going to be near on impossible.
Well done Dave and all the other guys who made this happen.

March 2020 GTR Up-Country Dinner Cancelled

Due to the ongoing health scare & recommendations against travel this month's up-country dinner for Wednesday 25th March is cancelled.

The proposed destination was going to be Wang Nua, a small town that we all flash past whilst riding R120.
I've long thought about a GTR dinner there, having never spent a night there, or known anyone who has.
It would be interesting to see what we could turn up & how it would go, but I also sense that people up-country are a bit nervous with strangers at the moment.
I'm also uncomfortable going with a group to unknown, untested small restaurants / bar beers where the hygiene could be of a questionable standard, so let's skip this month & see how we go next month.

I'm comfortable going to establishments that we know & that have a good hygiene standard, but for out of the way places that we have never had a night in before it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable at the moment. So best to curtail the dinner this month.

Riding around the North in 40 Celsius heat, I feel quite safe, plus staying away from crowds & packed air-conditioned pubs, however I do feel a bit uneasy organizing a group event at the moment, & being responsible should someone miraculously pick up the Wuhan wog on the trip to an out of the way place.

The Mekong pizza night event planned for Tuesday night 31st March should also be interesting with no inside sit down dining policy just in force.

Attention, loyal customers. In the age of Coronavirus, we'll be taking the same precautions as some of our Southeast Asia neighbors for the time being. No sit down, in restaurant dining effective immediately. Takeaway and delivery still available. You can even sit outside if you'd like, but your pizza will come in a take out box. This is just for now, we'll reassess in a few weeks based on the facts. This starts when we re-open tomorrow, Thursday March 19th. Thank you for your understanding!

    Stay tuned.

Looks like we finally clear for a eating & drinking as normal so we can organize some GTR up-country dinners.

The last Wednesday of the month in June is Wednesday 24th June 2020.

Before the post Covid opening was announced I recently checked out Phu Chi Fa, Thoed Thai & Doi Mae Salong for a dinners, to see if it would be possible to have one in those places & it was positive.
It could be wet, going into rainy season, so perhaps a destination with less mountain riding will be best.
A destination and venue will be confirmed soon.
    Stay tuned.

June 2020 - the last Wednesday of the month = 24 June.

The destination = Chiang Khong & the Teak Garden.
    upload_2020-6-17_16-59-52.
We have a special deal going with food catered by the Bamboo Mexican restaurant (which is closed), but will be prepared & delivered to the Teak Garden.

The Teak Garden are agreeable if we stay there & drink beer by the pool or in the riverside restaurant, the Bamboo Mexican can provide the food from outside.

    upload_2020-6-17_16-59-26.

On a very special note for the Bamboo Mexican. They have been closed for several months, pre covid-19, to look after Jib the father who is seriously ill with cancer. So they need the business to continue to survive & look after Jib.

    The Teak Garden hotel deal.
799 baht with breakfast with a garden view
999 baht with breakfast with a river view

    upload_2020-6-17_17-0-45.

    Please book your room
    Chiangkhong Teak Garden hotel
    Reservation : 084-1114666

We need to numbers confirmed 4 days before for the Bamboo Mexican to buy the ingredients = this coming weekend.

I hope you all have a great time. Borders and work prohibit me from attending, but I vouch for Bamboo Mexican being a worthy recipient of your food-funding Baht.
