VIP Auto Garage a crash repairs / paint shop

The biggest & best paint shop in Phayao, & the north?
Wanting to get my V-strom 2017 V-strom tarted up , with the black painted yellow.

I couldn't find a shop in Chiang Rai that said yes, they could paint the plastic.
No we / you can't paint that plastic, it doesn't work?
Duh, I thought. I also had the same response to stickering it too. No you can't sticker that plastic; so I gave up in Chiang Rai & was about to head off to Chiang Mai & get it all done, when Dave DKT suggested I try his local paint shop in Phayao.
Jackpot.

VIP Auto Garage is the shop & it is massive - over 100 staff

They have 30 staff in the paint section.
But they don't paint motorbikes. Take your bike in & they won't do it. You have to take the pieces you want painted off & deliver them. Then they will paint them.

And that's where Tokico Motorsport comes in handy. Use them to strip your bike down & take the parts off for painting.

The happy guys at VIP Auto slaving away on the old GTR fellah's V-strom plastic.

The colour to be matched

Getting the right colour - it was a group decision, but involved a spectrometer.

Some of the good stuff

Nippon 2K was paint used.

Completed parts

Standard black colour, before painting.

And what a difference, a bike you can clearly see & now recognize as the GTR V-strom.

For the record: 7000 baht for the paint job. Highly recommended.

You need time, but Phayao is a super place to hang out for a week.
500 baht a night for a room 150 metres off the lake @ Ratchawong Place
300 metres from the Saengchan Pub & Restaurant

Use Tokico Motorsports to wash, service & detail your bike, while you wait.

It is a winner all round.

That is an impressive looking paint shop

Speaking of paint shops, my missus lent our Toyota pick-up to her cousin last year, of course he damaged the lhs of the pickup on a concrete post, not his fault apparently my missus says, the car to big for his soi.....................................you can imagine my response, if its too fooking big you dont go down there, not go until you fooking hit something ..................................................anyway we take it to get repaired in Chiang Rai Toyota through our insurance, pick up the car a week later and im inspecting the work and im not happy with the colour match, my missus looks and says its ok, no not ok, we have a pearl white and they matched using just plain white, very noticeable, of course the missus tells the lady at reception that falang not happy, so they have to get the foreman from the paint shop to come and inspect ;)

Im getting ready for an argument with the foreman, he walks over and I point out the differences in colour matching, his response was this work no good, we do again 100% .................you could of knocked me over with a feather, he agreed with me ;).....................we had to leave the car for another for another few days and then it was perfect

So many times I see vehicles with Mismatched Paint jobs, different colours totally. Bloody Disgraceful! Just lack of care or pride in their work!

Confirmation again on VIP Auto Phayao.

My Vstrom # 3 needed a yellow paint job to copy Vstrom # 2.
Vstrom # 2 is up for sale but I was fond of the 2017 model, I bought another 2017 model with a yellow tank.
I checked with VIP Auto if they would do my bike again & yes was the answer, but why don't you ty our other branch in Chiang Rai which should be easier for you.

VIP Auto Chiang Rai

A visit to VIP Auto Chiang Rai to set something up was a significant fail.
Nom we don't do motorbikes.
Phayao say you can.
I will bring the parts to you. There are 13 pieces.
I have the colour code & show the "quote manager" photos of the all the pieces & the actual pieces on the bike that I had ridden there.
Ok bring the parts here & we will do it for you.
Good thank you. Can we confirm the price first please? I already have a new quote of 8,000 baht from VIP Auto Phayao, but produce the receipt for 7,000 baht from the previous job.
No, I can't give you a quote first, just bring the parts here & we will do it.
Sorry, I would like a quote first.
No quote, just bring the parts & we will do it for you.
Sorry no quote, no job.
And that was it!

Back to VIP Auto in Phayao.
8,000 baht is the quote & a repeat procedure.
Tokico Motorsorts remove the parts from the bike at their shop & we deliver the parts to VIP Auto.

It's amazing how dirty your bike can get under the tank & all the plastic.

The parts are delivered to VIP Auto. Convenience plus with a shopping trolley.

The Tokico Motorsports pick up is a classic beat up work vehicle.
1719305290202.jpeg

@ VIP Auto I'm comfortable with the same staff who did the earlier job. Their premises are massive.
1719306406819.jpeg

5-7 days is the turn-around time quoted by VIP Auto.
5 days it's not worth busing back to Chiang Khong & back.
7 days, ok I can handle that, just hang out by the lake in charming Phayao for a couple more days, no problem I thought.

9 days later we are all good to go, but I do wish I had gone home to Chiang Khong at the start & not been paying for a hotel for 9 nights.

1719306240666.jpeg

Why do the tank this time?
Well, I realised that this bike had been repainted once after being in an accident once, & the yellow was more a lemon colour & not the gorgeous Vstrom yellow!

Tokico Motorsports have done an excellent cleaning & detailing job.

The air filter was a bit dirty. I've been riding through too many swarms of butterflies at the start of the wet season.

Yai @ Tokico has done an excellent job.

Job completed I returned to VIP Auto & left a case of Beer Chang cans as a tip for the staff.
Some people, including Tokico Motorsports, cannot get their bike parts repainted @ VIP Auto.
Why I don't know, but I think that perhaps they are only interested in big jobs, painting a whole bike, and not small bits & pieces??
I like to keep a good relationship with them & stay onside with a case of beer as a tip for the staff.
