I've used Dirt Shop several times and satisfied. They prefer only to work on Dirt bikes of course but the mechanic on duty is pretty thorough. Difficult to get a time for work out of them. Prices are reasonable.

Red Baron, I could wander the rear warehouse for hours while they work on the bike. Expensive but competent on my rides so far, it's pretty damn far out and traffic sucks on the road. Expensive.

I've been in Paddock a few times and the selection is fine but a little pricey. One thing that they do that I found to be unique is a professional tire balancing unit. The prices are a little higher than Dirtshop but the staff like to discount.

I have bought all together 5 bikes from Red Baron during the last 7 years. The service is Ok and Wikrom (the manager) is a nice guy who know what he talks about. According to my experience I have waited for books from Red Baron as long as from other shops (here in Pattaya) so I can not share fabrices opinion about not selling bikes that are not registered yet. I bought a Africa Twin 2001 and the book took 6 month. A new Aprillia waited for book 3 years before they gave up and correctly refunded my registrations money 62.500 Baht.

If you talk with Wikrom he will tell you that Red Baron only make "clean books", no recycling and all books made in Bangkok. Anyhow I have bought a Varadero from Red Baron model year 1988!!!! Red Baron also make books in different places Chantaburi, Chiang Mai and Chonburi according to my experience. So I do not think that Red Baron really differ from the rest in that matter. I also know that they had a police search a few years ago but they passed it.

Overall I think Red Baron is a good and safe place to buy a motorbike, maybe a little more expensive than others, but I think they are more reliable.

Their workshop is very good and I can fall in trance when walking in their used parts warehouse...

HIKO

PS David when you do a list of Pattaya shops. At least Jerry seems to have some interesting thoughts about one shop....

Is it true that Red Baron only services bikes that are bought there?
For parts and accessories I found Stadium on Lad Prao pretty reasonable.

I remember somebody posting that this was Red Baron's new policy. Of course you could always ask them; Tx. 02-729-4131 Ask for Vikrim (manager-speaks English).

Hi Friends,

Could someone reminds me how it work when you source a second hand bike already having plates from a shop ?

Let us imagine that I want to buy a bike at Red Baron (who are generally very reliable, I tested it) how it works ?

Thanks for your feedback step by step with a short description of the average timing.

Hi all, I got a new Triumph Rocket 3 from Britbike Triumph at RCA. The whole process from deciding on the colour and extras has been totally painless. The guy I dealt with Khun Yut speaks excellent English and answers emails and calls promptly. The bike when it arrived was in top condition and they even fitted my alarm and saddle bags at no extra charge. Yut even escorted me to the main highway south so I didnt get lost getting out of BKK. I cant recommend them highly enough, a pleasure to deal with. They have a good selection of bikes and have even sent 2 of their mechanics to Hinkley in the UK for 3 months to be trained on the bikes they stock. I wish all Thai businesses were ran along the same lines. 10 out of 10

Cannot agree more, K. Yut is a very helpful guy, even when you just stop over for a chat or need advice 'bout your current bike. Last time he offered me to test ride the Rocket and a Bonneville.
In due time they will open dealerships in Phuket and Chiangmai.
I heard that Xtreme motors have 2 rates, 1 for Thai and 1 for farangs. Yesterday they fixed my front forks, 30 minutes plus oil 300 bht.(but I look like a Thai and had 2 thai friends with me)Another very cheap and reliable shop is V-Motors, small, dirty but good mechanics. You can also take your bike there and work in their workshop using their tools.
Had my CB 400 for a full service, paid 1,800 bht including materials and labour.

HI

Yes I also agree Yut is very professional. I bought some BMW's from him a few years ago and he was good. Most of his promises was kept quite good ( at least according to Thai standard) and we got the green books in 2 month. Unfortunally I found out later that the BMW Carver I bought was one year overdue, which he did't believe before I contacted BMW Germany. Anyhow he promised to compensate me but it never happened before he left Barcelona Motor. I am looking forward to get a good offer for a new Rocket Three at a "compensated price" (hopefully he reads this thread...)

Anyhow I don't think he should be hailed to much before Britbikes starts to "deliver" I think it was Rhodie who wrote that they are 4 months overdue with plates and books... That is not good performance despite the reasons beeing what so ever. I think that on this site before some "heroes" have been hailed and recomended and the final result has shown something else..

I would like to know how Siam Superbike and Motozone has honoured their final debts as earlier promised but I will ask that on respectives threads.

Hi Friends,

Since I land yesterday morning in Bangkok, I rushed to DIRT SHOP:

DIRT SHOP
23/6 Moo 5 Sukhumvit 77 Road, Praves
Bangkok 10520
Tel. 023221441 ][email protected]

For the tuning and preparation of the off-road bike I will receive (at least) today and was completly puzzled by the large choices of brands and accessories they could display.

All is there, the Paradise, you can't dream anything better (Renthal, Acerbis, TwinAir, Scott, UFO, Delta Braking, Dual System...) incredible !!!

On top this people are very kind, and professional and prices are very reasonable even when compared with European prices taking into account the weak exchange rate Euros/TBH we have at present !

I only recommand Off-Road Riders to visit them they will burn the few money they could have...for sure.

Hope you'll find all the parts you need there.

I visited the workshop (I won't dare to call it a garage) I among bikes in reconditioning I was as well happily surprised to see a wonderful 999 Ducati ready for racing (an additional good point for me...you should know why). Even modest, the workshop seems to e well maintain by Professionals who knows what they are talking about. On behalf of my French Off-Road Rider Club in Paris area, I offered them a DVD on Paris International Super Cross I will copy for and send to David with the copies of the Off-Road magazine relating about Thailand and GT-Rider.

As conclusion, for those who could imagine things... I will emphasis that I have NO personnal connection with the shop and that's purely by recognition of their kindness and professionalism.

Hi FRriends,

An other reason to warmly recommand RED BARON as a very reliable, trustable and professional Motorcycle Shop in Bangkok:

As some might know I acquire last week from them, a SUZUKI DRZ 400 S re-assembly from Japanese imported parts, the rear tool bag was missing and the direction locker was not working, with NO DELAY RED BARON serviced it and replace it fro brand new product, with a smile on top.

I do recommand then this shop, as well as their mechanics; address to:

Vikrom MONTRICHOK
the Manager,a straight and professional guy, who is Japanese fluent for those who practice....

or

Sommai ROOPCHANG
Technician Mechanics, very professional, allways trying the best solution, skilled

or

Boonlert POO-MEE
Mechanics, very professional and allways smiling as we like.

Hope it helps, I like very much these people as they bundle Thai creativity, Japanese professionalism in bikes (which is really something) and kindness.

Once again, I'ld like to recommand you a shop for bikers in Bangkok:

STAR
Antinoc Industrial Co. Ltd

Bangkok
Tel.: 02214356, 02224727
Fax. 02217566

This is a helmet Thai maker, please don't laugh so quickly they have a wonderfull collection of rather good quality helmets, leather goods, gloves and motobike boots (ooff-road and road) at very affordable prices (Thai standarts).

On top, they import from time to time some Taiwanese helmets of a very good quality such N & K helmets (Off-Road and X-Bike).

The factory shop is held by a very respectable Chinese-Thai woman, very kind and efficient, a word is a word and a date is a date.

You can also bring your old helmet to be refurbished for 500 to 1.000 TBH, your helmet will be repaint and the inside (words are missing for me) will be completly renew with exchange of the garnment and buckle.

The work is of very good quality and I brang from France already 2 ROOF helmets which have been wonderfully renewed inside and outside + a new plexi mirror screen.

Friends from paris, to whom i told the story as well come to this shop to rework their old helmets there as well.

On an other hand, they have a very nice collection in oldish style a bit for the purist who know such as the Cromwell from the past, but paint with art !!!

Enjoy it !!!

I bought 2 bikes (Honda 250 XR's) from Dr Bike on Chok Chai 4. They do not speak (or hardly any) english but the service is good, mechanics know what they are doing and prices are low compared to Red Baron and the likes. I bought one with original book and the second is being registered now (2 month expected time frame). They only need the money for rgistration after that has been done.

Although they are more specialized in road bikes, I can find there everything what is required for the bike.

If you live close and need your bike serviced worth a try.

Just an update on two biking gear shops here in Bangkok

Panda Rider

Panda Rider is relatively new and has put Paddock to shame with its extensive range of clothing, boots & helmets at [for Thailand] reasonable prices.

They have an interesting line in Rev’it airflow jackets and the owner says he will order larger sizes for those whose plumage is rather more than ample.

I wasn't aware that Bangkok has any "Biker Friendly" areas...

If you want to ride in the Big Smoke you have to either keep a handy supply of 100 Baht notes to pass out to the greedy coppers, or you have to learn how to avoid them altogether.

Another useful tip for riding in Bangkok- the coppers usually don't set up checkpoints during the rush hours- during those hours it's pretty much a free-for-all and you can use the overpasses, sidewalks etc without much fear of being hassled by the popo.

They also don't like to go out in the rain or hot sun which is why you'll often find their shakedown checkpoints under bridges or in the shade of large buildings.

Also, look for unusually large numbers of scooters coming your way against the flow of traffic- this usually means they've spotted a police checkpoint ahead and have already u-turned to escape the shakedown police.

It's a jungle out there! ;-)

Ride On!

Can somebody mark on a google map the location of dirtshop? Their map is terrible and I can't use the address in google maps. I'm not very familiar with getting around Bangkok. I live in Siem Reap and want to visit both Panda and dirtshop. I want to know how far they are apart so I can guess if it's feasible by taxi to visit both and get back to Khao San Road.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, I guess that it depends what product you are looking for.

Panda is more specialized on street and touring items, though dirtshop is more on offroad products.

Dirtshop is located in On Nut ( which is at the very south end of sukhumvit road) but once you are on ON NUT you have to ride at least 10 km to 15 km from sukumvit to Dirt Shop) it is very far,and it could be very long on a week day, if you want to go there, you 'd better go on saturday morning when the traffic is not too heavy.

Panda is on Paoyothin soi 51, easy to find.

I would like to recommend NINJA SHOP on NGAM WONG WAN soi 2, not too far from panda Rider.

Again i recommend that you go on saturday early morning otherwise you are going to waste hours on the traffic.

Bye

Depending on what you want to buy, a visit to Panda first might save you a trip to Dirt Shop. Dirt Shop is pretty far away from Kao San Road.

If you tell what you are thinking about buying, I can give you suggestions.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate any help people can offer. I just moved to Cambodia from Canada in January and want to get back into riding again.
I'm going to Panda to get a Rev'it jacket and some goggles. But unfortunately Panda doesn't have any motorcross style boots at a reasonable price. They only offer one line according to them via email.
I was wanting to pick up a pair of Shift combat boots or similar in the $100-150 range. When it comes to boots I've never appreciated the higher end ones. The little comfort difference doesn't outweigh the price to me. Others will differ but when it comes to the boots I want cheap since I won't be wearing them very often.

Regards,

David
