Ride Muscat, Oman 2012

This ride had taken quite a while in coming ever since I bought my HD Road King in 2009 here in Abu

Dhabi. The reason was that it took the rest of the guys all this time before finally committing to

buy bikes here recently. So this 3D 2N ride took place from 24/2/2012 to 26/2/2012.

This was the route taken and also the elevation profile of the route.

DAY 1
We started the ride from Abu Dhabi at 5:00am riding towards the Al Ain/Khatemt Shikla border

crossing with Oman. The convoy started with 9 bikes with another 2 more bikes departing from Dubai

and meeting up in Al Ain which was about 179km ride away. The ride to Al Ain was on a multi lane

freeway in 15degC temperature. It was finger numbing cold ride till dawn broke when we arrived at

the border crossing.

Border crossing was a pretty straight forward though time consuming process and another 17km away

was the Omani immigration & customs checkpoint. After this was a good route on the highway to

Sohar passing across a mountain range towards the Omani coastline.

Our destination was Al Qurm beach area in Muscat where we had our hotel reservations. The ride

from Sohar to Muscat was pretty much on a freeway so not much to write about.

DAY 2
This morning while waiting for the rest to get their breakfast I took a quick ride to Qurm Beach

for some pics.

Today we did some sights and rode out to hills for some views. It was a good ride with some nice

scenery

We then rode back into the city to Mutrah Souq where we had our lunch ..

After lunch we decided to get "lost" up in the hills and rode towards Yiti through some nice hills

and twisties ..

DAY 3
Today was our return leg back to Abu Dhabi and we decided the previous night that we will travel

back via Niswah and make the border crossing at Hafeet. We made a quick stop at the Muscat Harley

Davidson dealership for some souveniers and of course more pics ...

This longer route back to Abu Dhabi was a more scenic route

We made a lunch stop at Niswah before proceeding on ..

We ran into some duststorm in the late afternoon when we were about 70km from the border. We had a

sandblasting ride and made it through the sandstorm and gusting crosswinds to the border around

6:30pm. From there onwards it was a highway ride back to Abu Dhabi and we were home by 9:00pm.

It was a good ride this time of the year and the weather was still cool. We are now looking at our

next ride down to Salalah in the near future.

Wow, two reports from Oman in the last couple of days! Nice photos and report, interesting to see other people touring there too. Did you see my report which I posted a couple of days ago on here?

Yes I did read your RR and the same exact remark ran thru my mind ... 2 RR on Oman at the same time! Cool!

Looking at your route plan for Salalah, you are panning to use all the major highways so I don't think you will have problems with washed out roads etc, like you mentioned in my report.
